Pocket Full of Stones

Nobody is sinless so not one of us is completely blameless in our lives. When Jesus said in John 8:7- “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her” the context is necessary to understand what’s meant in the passage. Reading the verse by itself could imply in modern times that nobody needs to check or say anything to anybody because we’re not sinless. Why then are ministers, pastors, teachers and parents required to build us up? So governing ourselves without assistance and hope to God for the best is the formula? That’s not the intent, we should cast stones of correction when necessary; it would be even better that those stones were removed from our own pile before casting them at others but even if that isn’t the case it shouldn’t exempt the fact that the person casting the stone might be correct. Jesus had a stone of correction in verse 11 when he said: “Go and sin no more”. Condemning stones hit way harder than those that correct. It’s not that having a pocket full of stones is wrong but we need to know the right ones to pull out.

People weren’t scared of them putting together rallies, boycotts or even organizations but they were intimidated of the mentality of the people they influenced to participate in them. Actions only correspond what our minds have the ability to receive. We loosely take words for granted because we use them numerous times daily but there is plenty of evidence that words can either birth life or give access to destruction. Marry ME

I’ve seen situations happen with women that have notable last names or women so embodied with the culture of their family and the reputation it has that the man feels threatened to go further into the relationship. From my understanding of marriage and family it should be the start of something new not the continuation of what has already been established. It’s not about tearing the woman away from her family but making their new family first priority since she decided to be under his authority in regards to marriage. It’s great to see the woman you love have a very healthy relationship with her family but that shouldn’t interfere with the new beginnings that a marriage requires. When we ask women to "Marry ME" that's exactly what we mean....

Since around 2007 we're living in what the media and government call a recession where unemployment is high, businesses are closing and basically people are trying to make ends meet to supply enough for their home. Then we have the other side, the entertainment people and professional athletes that seem unhurt financially by what's going on in the world around everyone else. The latter part is nothing new and has been this way for years. Fast forward to 2011 and the NBA Labor Union has the NBA players in a current lockout because two sets of millionaires are arguing over dollars and who will eventually get the most out of the pot. Discussing this in length isn't necessary but to make a few points everyone can follow: NBA players average salary is $4.8 million (not including outside endorsements and income). The average household salary in the U.S. is less than $55,000. The players currently have 57% of ALL basketball related income in their favor and the owners (which pays the players) 43%. The players recently rejected the offer of a 50-50 split of all basketball related income between them and the owners. Being a business owner and employees getting more of a profit off the investment than the employers makes the business structure vulnerable and prime for major losses going forward. Which has been happening in the NBA with losses of millions of dollars over the last few years. Truth is the owners did play a big part in this happening as well but are savy enough to know something has to be done to fix the mistakes. Not saying the NBA players have no point at all but that their point is greed and eventually will hurt the game more than help its future. Players lie, owners lie but #'s don't...

Good Man

Typical subject yet still a popular social epidemic that has rarely been confronted with logic. A couple of my lady friends are in a man drought, meaning they're in the belief system that's losing hope in the "good man" or the belief that there aren't any in existence. Their definition of a "good man" is pretty typical: nice/thoughtful, treats her with respect, fun, humorous and the broad but common "goes to church" quality. After years of dating and moving in and out of relationships the problem seems to obviously be the man since of course we're the ones that usually mess up the chemistry (right?). True, often times than not that is the case for an average failed relationship but so is a kid blaming the dog for eating their science homework. If you ask me, I haven't had any failed relationships. Why? Because each one was a different experience and it allowed me to delete and add more substance to my quality of woman while adding substance to myself to qualify for that particular type of woman.

It'll always seem like a man's fault if a woman is going in relationships with the same qualities and state of mind from previous "failed" experiences. If this is true then those previous relationships were indeed failures. She'll attract a different fish but with the same stank smell the other one had. If qualities and mindframe don't upgrade why should a Prince Charming be willing to give a woman the necessary time to be in a committed relationship? A good man's qualities demands for a woman to be real with herself before she's ready for one. The question isn't how many good men there are but how many women will fall for the same okie doke and blame men for being themselves. The bad men will become fewer in between once the ladies recognize them as the signs and their personal qualities prove. Several are called, only few are chosen...

The Rise and Early Fall of KING James

Since late 1999 I’ve been following highschool/college basketball recruiting. I remember the hype of Darius Miles, Jared Jefferies, and DeShawn Stevenson. Somewhere in the middle of 2001 I first heard about Lebron James finishing his sophomore year of highschool and nearly beat an Oak Hill Academy basketball team by himself which had at least 7 high D-1 basketball recruits at the time. The documented talks of how great, mature, and the upside he had was groundbreaking in amateur sports. The hype train began from there and it was pretty easy to jump on seeing he wasn’t like previous highschool legends that couldn’t handle the pressure of being great. Fast forward to 2003 when he was the #1 pick in the NBA draft, signed a $90 million dollar deal with Nike, and literally had the world watching him as he prepared for his first NBA season. All this for an 18-year old kid that looked like he was pushing 24 and on muscle milk. As big as the hype was for his debut he actually exceeded expectations and made history his first season averaging nearly 21 points, 6 rebounds, and over 5 assists winning Rookie of the Year. The next 6 years he could do no wrong as he took a very pedestrian Cleveland team to the 2007 NBA Finals, won multiple league MVPs, All-Star game MVPs, an Olympic gold medal, set scoring records, and having grade A standing with the media and outside world.

Early July 2010 everything started to go south primarily because of bad decisions, poor choice in words, and a public lynching of his home city on national television (1^st mistake). I’m a pro Lebron guy but a person’s true character will show over a period of time if you pay attention. After joining the Miami Heat they had a big celebration on South Beach and Lebron self- proclaimed they’d win “not 5, not 6, not 7” championships to only add more fire to what was already burning pretty hot (2^nd mistake). Then move to the end of this 2011 season as they lost to a well deserved champion Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals he took shots at his critics by basically belittling their personal lives and making their rants seem untrue like he did nothing to warrant even a hint of backlash (3^rd mistake). We make mistakes, slip up big on occasions, and even say some things we end up regretting but to have 3 significant PR mistakes in LESS than a year’s time is not acceptable for a premiere athlete of Lebron’s stature. This is not including how poorly he played in the Finals, how unassertive he was in 4^th quarters (less than 4 points), how Jason Terry offensively smashed him when it counted most and how tentative his demeanor was when the game was up for grabs. Nonetheless, at the end of his career Lebron James will be the most unique and one of the greatest players ever to play pro ball but he won’t be in the top 10 players of all-time as I originally thought. Miami can win the next 2-3 championships but that won’t be any vindication because that’s what they’re supposed to do with 2 of the top 3 players in the world on one team. The bar is set so high that even “King” James can’t exceed these expectations this time.

When Keepin' it Real goes Wrong

Creflo Dollar recently preached a sermon that took up for Bishop Eddie Long and his past incidents of homosexuality with a few young boys. Basically saying don’t judge him because he had a “wreck”. And that we all have wrecks just as long as we have insurance (Jesus) to cover them. Big round of applause for that (which is true) but this subject is too touchy to hit on to a mass of people with many different viewpoints. I’m very sure Pastor Dollar meant well and obviously he knows him on a personal level but when you start making statements like that it comes off like you’re excusing the matter. And that if Bishop Eddie Long can have a “wreck” like that I can go right along and steal this little money from my job, or cheat just one more time on my wife because I have insurance right?? Like thinking we all make mistakes anyway so let me knowingly make this mistake and move on from there. I’m sure he didn’t mean any of those but there isn’t enough time in any pulpit to fully explain one side of that story. This type of statement/conversation belongs in an office with a couch, green tea, and air conditioning. There are so many angles one can go with this. At the end of the day I fully respect Creflo Dollar as a spiritual leader and as a man I just wouldn’t go out campaigning about these recent statements he spoke. Check it for yourself…..

2011...Moving Forward

What else can I say? It has been a while since being on this particular blog (about 6 months to be exact) but I'd say it was for good reason. I've grown mentally, been humbled spiritually & physically, my dating life has upgraded and I've officially started an Indie record label. The latter is still in progress but I do miss updating "Ready or Not" even if it's just for a few people to view my opinions and experiences. We all go through growing pains so what I stated above may not be a huge surprise but it feels good to say. Time has been flying since first starting this in mid-2009 and I appreciate all who follow, read, and comment. Just wanted to drop a few lines to start off the 2011 scroll. Reality Check

What makes a good Christian film? Is it the plot, content, and acting? Or does it really matter as long as a powerful message is being brought to conclusion. The recent film “The Grace Card” was the latest in Christian based language to be featured in limited theaters starting Feb. 25, 2011. I fully support the movie because of the message and foundation of it but after 45 mins or so of watching a couple questions entered my mind: How is this believable and why is it so cheesy? With the movie being based in Memphis, TN as well as being a racially centered film certain immoral content should’ve been considered from those two standards alone. Being a native Memphian I can confidently make that statement. When I analyze a movie to determine if it was worth watching I look at the reality of the scenes. In whatever atmosphere the movie is in can I see that happening in a real life circumstance? If not it doesn’t hold as much value in getting a point across.

Being a Christian is saying the right things, going about situations with a different perspective, and living with integrity but it also means relating to others, bearing burdens, showing this lifestyle is not easy and we WILL make mistakes. The craft of acting is almost that of an artist painting a picture for the world to see. I’m not an avid user or supporter of cursing BUT in certain entertainment industries they paint a reality that can’t be replaced verbally. We hear certain vulgar words and we can literally see where that person’s heart and mind is in that role. In some circumstances it puts us right there in their very position. It gives us a narrow view of their perspective and also gives a dose of reality. When in my office I’m exposed to cursing and dirty jokes at least 70-75% of my workday. When I’m away in public places or anywhere else not included in my personal space the number may be lower or higher depending upon location. As mature Christians we don’t practice or at the very least we make an effort to refrain from using that type of language but to paint a picture that we’re NOT exposed to it on a regular basis is sending the wrong message to the spiritually immature and the outside world.

I’m not suggesting a Christian film should have cursing in every other word but have just enough to make a story more realistic to Christians and non-Christians alike if the plot calls for it. In the majority of testimonies there’s “cussin and fussin” of some kind usually involved. Most of the time we want to smudge that part out but that’s a primary part of the makeup of the end result. Tyler Perry makes more “Christian” films than those that label there’s as such. I would like to see better-balanced Christian films that challenge the average viewer to think outside the box of what a typical Christian production can embody.

POWER of the "P"

Power of the “P”….. I wonder what actual comes to most people’s mind when I state that. It obviously can relate to a favorite female body part but what I’m talking about is similar but not quite it. The “P” has the power to break up marriages, abuse relationships, alter desires, and can be just as potent of an addiction as cocaine. It can seem harmless physically but can become excessive and dangerous mentally and spiritually. It’s like a Lay’s potato chip: “You can’t have just one”. If you haven’t figured it out I’m referring to pornography. I first got exposed to this at around 9 years old. Not a fault to my parents but I was very determined to see some action regardless of what I was told. The effect of it has been stained in my mental make-up and has clouded some relationships along the way. I got to a point where instead of getting up Sunday morning going to church I popped in one of my “regulars” and watched it in place of what I should’ve been doing. In all honesty I think porn has shaped my preference in my desire in the type of woman I want. That’s not necessarily a bad thing (physically) but it is when you solely base body types from what you see on DVDs and the fruit you’re getting from them.

Certain positions, dirty remarks, hardcore actions, and sex toy items all are part of the Power of the “P”. Now using those in a marriage is a-ok with me but the design of the whole industry is not geared in the “love me” direction. The rush and excitement of doing some other guy’s wife, the bartender at the club, the neighborhood hoe, a random pretty street girl, or the bad chick at the office is what makes porn a billion dollar industry. And in return makes the majority of society hooked on sex, highly immoral, and not accountable for some of our actions. AM I a percentage of this majority? Yup. I’m not ashamed and I constantly have to fight temptation like everyone else. Sex sales and I would stop and look at a picture with a half-naked woman before one that is not. Sad but true…..the Power of the “P” can’t be fully cured but can be avoided. Best advice I can give those who haven’t been exposed to any or very little “P” is to stay away. Even now I have to attempt to tame the beast that’s inside but I can’t be mad because it’s a beast I created.

FAT Chance

Nothing is wrong with a nice thick woman who is confident in herself. There are many perks that come with it but pushing it to the limit can be frustrating. Just because someone may prefer a thicker than average woman doesn’t make it beneficial to do the unnecessary. Unnecessary is constantly eating late hours of the night or excessive junk food and expecting those calories to disappear without work. Before some jump on my case, know that I too love eating late on occasions or even maybe once or twice a week depending on my schedule. But on the other hand I workout harder in the gym the next day, the following day or in some cases the same day when I happen to do that. Although I know many COULD follow the same regimen, I know several women don’t have the discipline to do so.

I would have better results with eating better AND working out but maintaining a decent build is priority for me. Eating after 9 or 10 is not the primary beef but the consistency and discipline afterwards is the disaster. I’ve always been a thick build guy and even at my most muscular and trimmest I had a little bit more meat on my bones than people of similar height and weight. Some of the most beautiful women in the world are full figured but to maintain it is easier said than done. Ladies that hold more cushion than others know that you’re loved, just beware of being a french frie combo and/or late night snack away from looking like Jennifer Hudson then transforming to Nell Carter. FAT chance you’ll get to where you want doing that with no regret. STOP it….

Going 90 in a 45...

I dated a woman 5 years older, dark chocolate complexion, very sweet, attractive, God fearing and a cook BUT she had three kids. Great wife material and good kids just not the right situation for me. Dated a woman 10 years older, bright skin, long hair, voluptuous, decent morals and one kid BUT she was moving too fast for me to keep up. Dated a woman 6 years younger, caramel, sexy, growing spiritually, NO kids and a cook but once again a connection wasn’t there enough for me to stay. I’ve also dated my own age and 1-5 years older/younger so I have a variety of exposure on the dating scene. Age and experience played vital parts in the outcome of each of those relationships. I’ve come to realize that EVEN when we (as singles) find the ONE we have to be smart on how we analyze the progress. Someone can be on point on ALL cylinders but may lack common sense, life experience, or that physical “IT” that we’re so use to having. Those last three traits are what stand out more frequently but we all may have to gauge what matters most on a bigger scale.

Although I didn’t make a mistake exiting in any prior relationship I stated above, I have definitely learned from each and each has propelled me into a better place mentally. To judge a book by its cover is normal by habit but it takes being abnormal for dreams and desires to be fulfilled. Dare to be different, don’t be afraid to take a chance on love even when statistics and “social rules” say otherwise. Whether someone is dark, light, white, older or younger as time goes on that should be the least thing on our minds in finding a match. Ladies your preference of a older, tall, dark, athletic, handsome man making six figures sounds good but it’s VERY possible that a younger, shorter, lighter, un-athletic, nice man making 45K is better for you. Men our general preference of a fine woman with either big breasts or booty and a brain to match is great but it’s very likely a cute, “ok” frame, caring, trustworthy woman would be a better fit. For example: It’s safe to pick Beyonce as your wife based off appearance but it takes a calculated risk to find something more. It’s a proven fact that risk takers are rewarded more than safe drivers. TIME TO GET DANGEROUS IN OUR PURSUIT TO HAPPINESS!

Cookies N' Cream

Hopefully this doesn’t cause much tension between the beautiful black women and myself but sometimes I wish I had a BAD white woman I could call my own. It’s intriguing to me because of what I’ve heard, not what I have experienced. The bubbly smiles, energetic yet sometimes corny humor, and association potential are more than enough to make a man curious. And NOT necessarily because of what she can bring to the bedroom, kitchen, or her demeanor but primarily a different approach. Any more explanation than that and I will be walking dead into the jungle of “ROASTABLACKMAN” with no way out. When I say a BAD white woman I’m not referring to one that acts black or has similar tendencies or physical features but a pure white, valley, Kelly off “Saved by the Bell” roadie.

Although I do see myself eventually settling down with a black woman, I’m not saying anything the majority of black men have thought, done, or fantasized about before. Have I seen a white woman I would date? OF COURSE. Have I ever dated one before? NO. Would I ever date a white woman? Under my preferences, HELL YEA I WOULD. The reasoning has nothing to do with race but availability. I’ve had a few white women have an interest in me but I never felt the same about them. My complexion is so dark that I would surely draw attention when out with one especially in my city. That’s the part that actually interests me the most, why? I’m not really sure. It’s not something I’m obsessed with but definitely something worth imagining and to write about. ATTENTION: If you see a black man or woman with a white counterpart don’t hate but give them “the nod” of approval. If you're good, I'm great. Love is blind people; lets try to act like it. Anything else said in detail and I might be over doing it so let your imagination run free. Just know oreo cookies taste better when dipped in milk….that is all.

Man in the Mirror

Just because someone doesn’t mirror your exact opinion or view doesn’t make the other person necessarily wrong. In God’s eyes, we all have different unique gifts and assignments. One subject I’ve heard and been a part of before is the music conversation. I’ve had the opportunity of being around and hearing about quite a few Christian Hip-Hop artists. Although there are only a select few I would actually buy and listen to, they all have an empowering function in their ministry. When I hear certain “Christian” artists refusing to buy a Drake, Lupe, Beyonce or Alicia Keys CD it bothers me. On one hand they would listen to the music but wouldn’t buy it then bash the person buying it even though in some way, shape or form they’re listening to the same artist. The person selling drugs is just as guilty as the person who smokes it!

If you think an artist is garbage, cool, you have every right to feel that way but don’t try to change others mind just because you feel strongly about it. Music is only a piece of the puzzle not the whole picture. Christians that wouldn’t go buy a Lupe Fiasco album are the same ones that would rush to go buy a pair of Jordans. Why? Because they know Lupe is Muslim and wouldn’t want to support someone of his faith. Michael Jordan on the other hand is the greatest ball player ever and nothing could possibly be wrong in buying his shoes right? Wrong, although MJ is charismatic, likeable and popular he’s not the role model you would tell your kids to emulate or support.

Michael has been known to cheat on his wife, been openly rude to fans and has a live-in Cuban girlfriend (also known as shacking). I don’t know about you but I don’t remember Jordan mentioning the name of Jesus on interviews or acceptance speeches. I do remember him mentioning he, himself and “I”. Now which one is more marketable to support? Millions also buy, watch and support Oprah Winfrey as well but does she really live and confess spiritually what a Christian woman should?

This is not a Michael Jordan and Oprah diss article but I strictly used them as examples to make my point clear. If you’re going to use a moral standard in listening and buying music, do that also for clothing, food, shoes, restaurants, movies, TV programs, magazines, cars, sunglasses, equipment, etc. They all need our money and usage for them to be relevant. And the result is increasing the pockets of the people involved, which may or may not be who you believe they are. Is it hard to assume what others are doing and believing all the time? Of course it is, so trying to pinpoint music is good but don’t forget EVERYthing else in the process.

Being single and not having sex before marriage is great, but if I use abusive language and steal from people I’m just as bad. It has to go across the board, not what I personally want to pick out. There is no way you can truly trace everything you watch, purchase, wear, use and eat to see if people behind them specifically line-up 100% to your belief. The best thing to do is to get a personal relationship with God, allow him to mold and direct you into the lane he has you to function in. Don’t attempt to drag people in your same lane when it’s not meant for them to be there. Look at the man in the mirror……

Self-explanatory yet still needs to be thoroughly explained. Tricks, whores, skanks and groupies are the total opposite of who a man envisions spending the rest of his life with. We like different characteristics of each in our mate with an intent to please. Good women are in high demand today just much as good men but if you present yourself like Ceily off the “Color Purple” then you will get the same in return in some aspect. A woman doesn’t have to have big breasts and stack back but she can dress, have her hair styled nice and smell good regardless. The thing that’s most attractive about tricks and groupies is that they aim to please their prey at almost any cost. Whether their feet are hurting at the end of the night or paying 120 getting their hair and nails done, they handle business to sustain what they want. Their motive is all wrong and trashy but how they go about doing it needs to be noticed.

It’s no coincidence some men stray away to that female that looks and smells good but when his girlfriend sees her she’s like: “HUH?! He ditched me for dat?!” or “Yea I knew she would be dressed like a hoe!” Nine times out of ten the night that guy strayed with her she was looking nice and sexy at that particular moment. And I’m not saying, “dress like a hoe” BUT you might want to adjust according to your preference. It’s not an excuse but a reason to be aware that somebody is always vying to take your spot. If you have a good mate the chances are slim to none but don’t give him/her a valid reason to think about it. Everything good or bad we do first comes from a thought.

I’ve heard before: “The only reason she gets what she has or gets that type of man is because she dresses like that.” My response: “And YOUR point IS…….. take notes and go shoppin’.” Just as when a man beats his wife and says he loves her is straight bull the same is when someone expresses genuine interest but goes out with their hair shot down and/or dressed like a rag doll. Not cool…..take pride in how you represent your brand.

Everyone walking around today is their own brand. Some are lazy brands, others casual, tom boyish, lame, etc. Whatever you put out there as far as style and hygiene will have as much to do with whom you attract and keep around. My pastor even stresses courting after marriage. You can’t court without aiming to impress and taking control how you present yourself not only in public but when you’re in the presence of your mate as well. If it’s an important factor after marriage it has to be twice as important before.

It’s something about a woman that consistently dresses nice, wears the right touch of lip-gloss and smells good that is contagious. She might not ever win the “Halle Berry” award but what she lacks in shape and look she makes up in style and hygiene. You have to know yourself and make adjustments as needed. I’m not the tallest or lightest (skin tone) man in the world but I know my limitations and work with what I have. We have to make note of things we can and can’t control. Confidence, style and hygiene are variables we have control of no matter what limits we have physically. Oprah is not the best looking woman but she dresses like a dime……

Sometime men act like a headless chicken when looking to pursue a committed relationship (myself included). We look more for the “right now” rather than what it could be in year 10. Don’t let me lie to you and say the “right now” doesn’t matter in certain areas but potential is the key to succeeding in the pursuit of happiness. Like the NBA or NFL Draft, potential is a good word when it comes to dating. Also it comes with a high risk-high reward depending on the level of common sense used during the process. A dime is a dime and that will never change but what truly makes one is made up of 25% looks and 75% everything else.

Men can point out a dime within 5-10 seconds of meeting a woman but really you won’t be able to conclude that until maybe a month or two down the road. All the videos, songs, sexy pics and movies are only cover-ups to attempt to make up our mind for us what a dime truly is. Somebody that’s thoughtful, encouraging and handles business will eventually look like Beyonce no matter if she physically matches the original or not. Instead of consciously looking for a dime we should pay more attention to the characteristics of one. I bet Jay-Z looks a whole lot better with an entrepreneur attitude and 40 mil attached to his name instead of a grimy hood dude from Brooklyn. He has the characteristics of someone with the looks of a Boris Kojoe but he’s more sought after and admired more than a guy with a better exterior. Why? Because superior character and confidence last, looks fade. Too many filet mignons are getting past over for rump roasts and we need more U.S.D.A. certified relationships to stop the dating madness.

When a man gives a woman a compliment it doesn’t necessarily mean he wants to get with you. There are enough conceited women to misjudge this type of situation. A GOOD man (i.e., myself) will give a compliment and may even ask to hang out sometime but unless my post actions or words say different, I’M NOT TRYING TO HOLLA! On the other side I can get why some women could think different but that’s only because they’ve had too many immature wankstas so anything remotely similar is automatically put in that box. Don’t be fooled, everyone needs to treat every situation on an individual basis. If a man is truly trying to get with you he will frequently call, text or use some form of communication to keep himself noticed. Usually it’s a combination of all three so that there’s no question on motive. It’s great to have confidence but everyone needs to hear a compliment every now and again. Truth is women need to hear them more so than men. We feel we’re doing you a favor by expressing how good you look or how sweet you smell. It keeps the eco system flowin’ the right way and the woman feeling good that someone appreciates her appearance. Ladies, next time someone gives you a compliment and smiles don’t always think dude is trying to get on….makes you look kind of desperate.

There are three traits that are virtual unmatched in a woman. A woman with these traits and a plan to back it up is a deadly weapon. The first of the three, and most important, would be number 1 almost on every man’s list. If you want to get a man’s attention and show love, you cook. If you want a man’s unconditional affection and understanding, you cook. If you want a man to consistently flower you with gifts and sweet gestures, you need to cook (and well I might add). It’s a certain pattern to our madness but you need to pay attention to follow it. It’s not rocket science to figure out what pleases us. Truth is a woman can get away with a little more mess if she cookin’ right. Other than fast trifling women fulfilling every sexual need on command but even after that he has to eat! Lesson is: Nothing sexual can fulfill a GOOD single man. Cooking is a small part to the big picture but big enough for that picture to fade. Women don’t necessarily need to be a master chef but good enough for personal preference. A man needs to know his way around the kitchen as well but that shouldn’t take precedence over a woman having primary care of that area. So the ladies that think they can ease on through the cracks of a productive relationship without cooking are either ignorant or the man is not smart enough to realize they can’t eat out all the time! FYI: “The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” There are plenty of false myths regarding men-to-women and women-to-men but this phrase you can surely take to the bank. PLLEASE just do it……

Smiling is something you learn as a 1 year old to make relatives, friends and associates happy because they see the “wuttle baby grinin’”. This trait is self explanatory. A smile (especially a beautiful one) speaks volumes for not only the moment but for memories. A person that smiles a lot is trademarked by that smile. Almost every time you think of that person you think of their smile and the enthusiasm that came with it. This is not gender sensitive but I’m leaning more so on women. A woman that smiles often is linked with positivity, which in return brings compliments and benefits in her direction. Women that frown or frequently have a neutral face are marked as: UNAPPROACHABLE. And if that’s the goal (or you simply don’t care), cool, just don’t be surprised when the wrong guy appears…….AGAIN and you’re alone. Of course everyone doesn’t smile all the time but it should happen more often than not. Just do it….

Staying positive is a mindset more than action. We have to choose to be happy and surround ourselves with those types of people. Most men know that women have that “time of the month” but she knows its coming just as much as we do; try to stay positive about it. We don’t necessarily jump up and down going to work everyday either but there’s no need to frown, complain and throw pity parties; stay positive. Staying positive can be just as much as a turn-off as bad breath or ashy lips. You can still be a realist and stay positive. No one wants to be around someone constantly complaining, whining or bitter. Cook, smile and stay positive; the most successful wives and aspiring single ladies have these traits down to a science...

I felt the need to further clarify the Memphis/Kentucky rivalry circumstance. So many think Memphis fans and/or Memphians are giving John Calipari an unfair time. When I say rivalry I’m not necessarily talking about on the basketball court, this is primarily an off-court situation. I personally appreciated him for what he accomplished while at Memphis. We won a historic number of games, conference championships, elite eight appearances, national significance and a near 2008 NCAA title. Where all the flack comes from is presentation. A man can’t treat his wife real well for 9 years then on the 10^th year up and divorce her then not expect any heartache, karma or confusion to come with it. The way Calipari left was sleazy at best. You give a man credit where credit is due but you can tell where a man’s heart is in his actions. He knew in January 2009 that Memphis would be under investigation at the end of the season about a particular eligibility situation that he chose to keep silent. Later in March he specifically told a local Memphis TV station he had no intention on leaving and had no interest in another job.

The whole presentation of that statement alone suggested he had no reason for leaving. Then when he left he took EVERYTHING including the prize recruits that committed or were a virtual lock to come to Memphis before his departure. That's what really stung, not the fact of him leaving but taking the transmission that came with it. We’re not talking about any “fly-by” every year recruits; we’re talking 6’7 Xavier Henry (All-Big 12 & Big 12 Freshman of the Year), 6’4 John Wall (National Freshman & Adolph Rupp Player of the Year), 6’11 DeMarcus Cousins (1^st Team All-American & Most Dominant Big Man in college basketball), 6’1 Eric Bledsoe (Explosive & Athletic All-SEC performer) and 6’8 Darnell Dodson (Sharpshooter & part of Kentucky’s starting 5 that won the SEC). At least four of those recruits are NBA lottery picks and were undoubtedly coming to Memphis until he left and clearly convinced them to come along also. He was quoted saying: “My HOPE is for all the players committed to Memphis will go to Memphis. That’s my HOPE.” We all know hope only can get you so far. I can hope I get an extra 500 on my next check but if I don’t put in work or do anything worthy of getting it then all my hope is a fraud. That’s the hope Calipari had in his prior statement: FRAUD.

On the other hand I can’t blame the man for taking the Kentucky job because you have better facilities, a massive history, better conference and most importantly (for him anyway) more notoriety. He constantly said players that would come to Kentucky wouldn't go to Memphis because of name recognition, location and history. Which is a true statement but the very thing he is seeking at Kentucky could be his progressive downfall. At Memphis we’re more into building a national student-athlete program rather than an executive athlete-student business. He will always get players like a John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe but their motive is to be a top NBA player not a NCAA champion. The players at Memphis he nearly won the NCAA title with and most battle tested teams had: Antonio Anderson (4-year starter), Rodney Carney (4-year starter), Andre Allen (4-year player), Chris Douglas-Roberts (3-year starter;1^st team All-American), Joey Dorsey (4-year player), Robert Dozier (4-year player), Jeremy Hunt (3-year starter) and Shawn Taggart (3-year player).

The players he said wouldn’t come to Memphis but go to Kentucky are the exact players he needs to ultimately be successful at a championship Division I level. So the players he longs to attract to Kentucky that supposedly wouldn’t come to Memphis will in return give him a lot media attention and extraordinarily talented teams but no hardware. Hardly ever do inexperienced young teams go on to win national championships. Ask the Fab Five: they had a couple unprecedented runs in the NCAA Tournament but they always lost to a more experienced battle tested team that grit and toughness outdueled athleticism and talent. If a team has won being relatively young then they had an outstanding coach that teaches the X’s & O’s precisely (e.g. Tom Izzo, Jim Boeheim, etc). And we know John Calipari’s background is clearly not being an X & O coach.

He’s great at motivating, marketing and recruiting not drawing up plays and analyzing in-game situations. See at Memphis he truly had the best chance to win NCAA titles because not only is the program well-respected, known and “just big enough” but national blue-chip players are warming up to the fact of playing in the bluff city; just ask Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans (2009 & 2010 NBA Rookies of the Year) and the three blue-chip recruits we have coming in the No.1 recruiting class this year. Along with that he could have molded players like a Willie Kemp, Wesley Witherspoon, Charles Garcia and Will Coleman to be battle tested and be just as ready as any blue-chip recruit when their 3^rd or 4^th year came around. But just like a business he wants what’s hot right now rather than what’ll be beneficial down the road and that’s a formula for a breakdown especially when running a UNIVERSITY PROGRAM.

One or two blue-chip recruits alongside talented battle tested juniors and seniors are a recipe for title contention. He’ll have plenty of talented/athletic teams but the majority will be first or second year players with little to no big game NCAA experience to carry them in April. And Kentucky just getting to Final Fours and Sweet Sixteens is not going to cut it; you have to WIN! He may get more talented players at Kentucky but they want NBA glory before NCAA titles therefore keeping them no longer than two years (and most will leave after a year). It’s nothing personal against Kentucky the school but a dislike of the presentation and repetitive actions of THEIR coach John Calipari. Just because he’s in a Rolls Royce now doesn’t mean he became a superb driver overnight, it just means he found an expensive car to crash. I don’t wish him bad but the proper fruit will bear from the tree sooner or later. Meaning things will happen the way it needs to happen, there are no coincidences in life OR in basketball. I don't know if it's just me but almost every time I see some pictures on facebook from events that old classmates, associates and friends attended some of the ladies look more "hoeish" than when I left college! I'm thinking we're suppose to get more classy not nasty with age (at least dress wise). I know we all need to go out and have a nice time on occasions but if what you wore in 2005 wasn't good enough to catch THAT guy then don't go a notch higher on the skank-o-meter to get attention. I see stripper pole heels, dresses and such attire that makes taking those pictures look just as lame. Now the ones (you know who you are) that actually represent that tight, sexy, freak clothing well two thumbs up but they're a minority and a whole different story in itself. I know it seems like I'm bashing some of the ladies but that's because I AM.

I hate to see women posing for pictures looking like they're running a reject ad for early shift at Magic City. Because the people that smile at you saying: "Yea girl you lookin' good" are the same front runners the next day screamin': "What the world did that heffa have on last night?!" And that's not gossip; it's when perception hits reality. Being stylish for a woman is a little more work than for a man because its much more to do and to accessorize. A man can wear a nice button up, slacks and a tie to look above average but a woman might need extra hair, eyes, finger nails, tissue (yea we know), stockings, etc. just to be presentable on her terms. FYI- If you're constantly looking for the mate of your dreams at a club type event (men or women) then you might want to look at what kind of bait you're throwing in the water.

You can add this to my pet peeve list: NEGROS being NOSY for NO reason; The three strikes you're out. You can find these people at work, on the street, corporate meetings, lunch dates, etc. Basically any public place, you know them because they may verbally talk to you but are looking DEAD at your personal space trying to find out what's going on or what's not. At work that personal space would be your desk or computer, at a meeting it might be your notebook, in a general setting it might be a text message. The situations can be several but the aggravation is the same. Even on a date someone may ask an obviously odd nosy question and you may give them that bad diaper smell look. Questions are good but coming off as nosy is not what's hot. And that perspective will vary from a person-to-person basis. If you run into someone like this kindly point them in the right direction....the direction going away from the initial conversation.

The 6th Man

Working with a lot of military personnel I hear a variety of discussions around my area that are sometimes hilarious and others straight loco. The position I hold I have to be wise and chose which battles to participate in for the integrity of my company and work environment. How ironic a discussion came up about tithes and offerings. One guy: "I don't like preachers bringing up (begging for) money in church, it's a touchy subject." Another guy agreed and replied: "Man I feel you, I'm not trying to provide for pastors' lifestyle (fancy cars, houses, clothes, accessories) when I'm trying to make it myself." Lastly somebody else said: "You know how much ten percent is?! I've never given a tithe, all I've given have been offerings. I give what I feel like." And these are fairly successful military men with accolades.

My point is that even with a secure supply of income, benefits and awards people can still be obviously "out of touch" with God for giving them the opportunity to even have such privileges. Even when they believe in God and admit to being blessed to having such things, they feel they give to a man in church or lifestyle of his family rather than the principles of faith, obedience, spiritual treasures and divine protection. If every time I gave I had the mindset of giving to a mere human being I would have skipped half a dozen times or more because it wouldn't make much sense. As I couldn't help but listen to the rest of this pathetic conversation all I could do was smirk but knowing my chance to inject knowledge is coming soon being the 6th man isn't all that bad....for NOW.

Just wanted say something brief since we're starting a new decade (I know I'm about a month and a half late). This going to be a great year and I'd like to thank those that have took the time to read my posts. I know some have respectfully disagreed but even then it was done tactfully. As like everybody I'm continuing to grow as man and as a communicator so I'm going to try to post different topics that are popular and some not as much. I know alot of my beginning blogs were "churchy" and that's definitely one side of me but I want to get into other circumstances as well because we ALL fall short somewhere in between the lines and its going to be part of my duty to relate to everyone and have some fun as well. Haiti Tribute

After watching this video on YouTube I had to put it on the Jack@%$ wall (K97fm-Memphis reference) for the rest of this year. I knew they made another version of “We are the World” but up until recently I didn’t hear it. Unfortunately I saw the video and was highly disappointed in the music creativity. I could go so many different ways with this but how do you remake a classic record with the likes of Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warrick, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers, etc. to Pink, Miley Cyrus, Johnny Depp, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, T-Pain, Keri Hilson, Lil Wayne, Swizz Beatz, and you can’t forget Wyclef. Now some of the artists on the 2010 version are in their own right legends in their perspective genre and I enjoy listening to them but you can’t remake Kool-aid and still call it Kool-aid!! If you make something similar just call it something different and let public opinion compare and contrast. I get the message, the cause, and even the 25th anniversary but some things are meant to be left alone. This song is in that category.

On the original record I remember getting goose bumps listening to it but hearing the 2010 version made me snarl, laugh, and shake my head. It started off decent but it ended leaving me scratching my head. If that record is suppose to make people give more to the tragic cause in Haiti then expect death threats rather than donations. Most have heard the original record and to even compare the two would be disrespectful to the legends that did it back in 1985. This is not to down play the efforts people are putting towards Haiti and their restoration but as the word says “Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial”. Financially the sales of the song will benefit Haiti but the core, essence and quality of the actual product is not benefiting to anyone except the artists that participated. May we all continue to pray, give, and carry the burdens for the people of that nation but let’s not try to do too much and control what we can’t. The best thing to do when comforting someone else is to serve, give and get out the way.

One thing a grown man can’t stand is a nagging desperate woman. Sure you’re edging closer to 30 years old (or in some cases older than that) but stop the full court press. Even if you’re a FINE young lady, it looks bad on your portfolio. But let me also say a woman that is categorized as “fine” would be tolerated more on this issue than just a regular cutie. If you’re not the finest woman in the world you can make significant strides with your attitude, style and demeanor. Ugly on ugly is always ugly no matter how you slice it. If you’re pretty on the outside you’ll have more time to make adjustments with those characteristics than someone who is not. I didn’t make the rule but I’m not a fool to know that’s how the generic system works. My advice to single ladies that are looking for a potential husband: STOP the pressin’ and start playing man-to-man defense. Meaning take every situation as an opportunity to get to know a person instead of an invite to potential relationship. Truth be told everyone you meet you’re not going to be compatible with for relationship purposes but maybe for association or mild friendship.

Honestly the men most women SAY they are looking for have enough sense to see the difference between the two. If anyone should be doing some “inviting” it should be the man. I’ve had experiences where I was the invitee and every one of those situations turned out to be a bust. It was flattering and it boosted my ego a bit but that faded quickly. A woman that is interested in a guy shouldn’t be the initial inviter but I would very highly suggest showing some signs of interest to go along with his pursuit. Whether that’s a smile, assistance, subliminal hints, or even indirect invites would be cool. In other words, close mouths don’t get feed so don’t expect a good man to do magic tricks just to get to know you (FYI- you’re not THAT important). Good women are more in abundance than good men so it’s easier for us to move on to the next one rather than stay around doing extra things that we define as unnecessary. You don’t have to take my word for it but if you’ve read this far you have to know that it’s the truth……

Busy Bodies

I can relate to being busy. I’m occupied with church activities, a career, appointments and a production business getting off the ground. Some days are busier than others but I should always be aware of circumstances around me concerning my future. I’ve come to realize things don’t come on personal timing so I need to be alert even when I don’t think it should occur yet. It could be a relationship, business opportunity, or an unexpected promotion. Whatever the circumstance it would be selfish of me to think narrowly and not leave room for what God has for me at his time. I’ve come across people in both genders and broad age ranges that are so set and busy with being busy that they miss out on a good opportunity. Staying busy is cool but not to the expense of your particular purpose.

In our music production company (Do M.U.S.I.C. Recordings) we’re in the infant stages of executing proper business principles into what we already know about music. It’s going to take some time but by no means are we going to limit what God can do even before we think we’re necessarily ready to take those specific steps. Proverbs 16 (NLT) starts out saying “We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer.” We should make plans, stay busy and be involved but shouldn’t be strictly set in our personal way that it stops what God put in front of us. Even in relationship mode, I enjoy being single and I don’t have to be in a relationship but I can’t be stubborn in my singleness if I see someone to my liking to the point I’m rejecting her merely off my personal feelings and I (key-letter) don’t feel I should be seriously dating or committed. I could potentially miss out on my wife by following my own specific life course. If your desire is to be happily married one day don’t limit what YOU feel would be great timing with what God points to as his timing. Rushing or even delaying a marriage are equally as bad because wisdom isn’t being taken into account. We all need to be flexible and open to different courses that may seem unorthodox (or not preferred) at first notice.

Who's to Blame?

This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while and needs to be addressed. I believe if we recognize there is a problem then we can begin fixing it. A lot of our R&B and mainstream Hip Hop artists’ have some type of background in the church and most have even started at that point. And their talent and passion is undeniable but why are they so quick to leave the foundation of the church? Because the people in the church or the people that run it didn’t believe in them enough to help support them financially and continue that foundation. Then they’re upset or highly critical when they leave that foundation. This can be said of some of the parents and family members as well.Therefore to make a living doing their passion and talent they had to leave the realms of the church or what they knew was correct because no REAL support was given or even mentioned.

People expect everyone in the church spectrum with music talent or talent in general to just do it because it comes from your heart and is a gift from God. Basically doing it for free at all times and you’re suppose to do it for free (depending on the situation) because it’s ministry BUT it may feel you’re being taken advantage of because on the other side ("secular") they are offering way more benefits and “love”. Only difference is the content is heavily compromised and the initial direction is muffled. I’m not making an excuse but it’s clear that it has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way leaving them confused. Once confused their reasons are justified as the only alternative to use the gift God has given them. True God has given them a gift but they’ve left the covering of the church because all we(the church) want to do is use and subconsciously abuse their talents because we feel “it’s the least they can do”.

Everyone wants to do something they have a passion and a gift for and make a living doing that but the people that SHOULD support it don’t leaving room for corruption and bad advice. I am a believer someone needs to show a good amount of faithfulness to gain the support I’m referring to but once proven that responsibility turns back to the church. Today’s popular rap and R&B game is the new DRUG arena in this culture. People know what they should do and want to do but they see the guys on TV and the guys constantly on the radio getting recognition and tons of money doing what they love and it instantly makes sense! Especially when the people that are SUPPOSE to be their supporting casts don’t give them any real alternative option to go against it. We have to be personally accountable but if you keep pushin’ somebody is going to eventually jump!

Again the devil is always on the prowl looking for new ways to disconnect us from God without being obvious or intentional. This is definitely one of his strategies and its working to certain degree. My cry would be to start supporting people/family with a dream and talent that minister godly concepts through song, poem, writing, public speaking, drama, business, etc. Because if we don’t somebody else will and odds are it won’t be the best help needed. And when I say “Support” it doesn’t always have to be financially but in some circumstances it might be words, deeds, or mere presence. We just need to be sensitive that if we’re in a WAR like most Christians believe against wickedness then we need to bring the proper resources to the fight and that includes our money. Why do most things need to be free in the Body of Christ? We have dreams and aspirations too…..

Family Feud

For those even with decent knowledge, partial wisdom and common sense all still acknowledge unity as the key to success in most things. Without unity strife and division occurs and when that happens a number of violent and ignorant actions take place. This goes into the example I’m presenting: The war of words between Spike Lee and Tyler Perry. Both are highly successful and respected not just amongst African-Americans but other cultures and ethnicities as well. I would agree on the base of both of their view points but leaning more heavily toward Spike’s opinion. Going against Tyler Perry these days is like going against a Goliath type figure especially in the black community. It’s not going to go over well with most because of his success but even Tyler Perry needs constructive criticism. Madea and Leroy Brown are hilarious characters but the essence of their image doesn’t portray what we (as African-Americans) need to imitate. As most know, we imitate physical examples more fluidly than we do actual messages. House of Payne is a trip and I watch it on occasions but the image of laziness and poor decisions are subconsciously being instilled in people’s mind of what “black folks” personify. Madea represents a combination of what Tyler Perry grew up around in his old neighborhood in New Orleans. I get that and I believe that was a great place to start and implement his vision to the world but to continue to do films and sitcoms around her (and other characters) wouldn’t acknowledge his true creative growth as a producer and writer. Just because it makes plenty money doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the best thing to keep doing.

I’m not a fan of music artists that their music doesn’t grow with their own personal maturity (lifestyle). I should hold other branches of art to the same standard. If gutter is what you see and began with cool but when you have better and know better you do better. Everything is about looking forward and seeing what we CAN have not always looking at the past to determine our future. The Cosby Show, Different World, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters, The Game, and even New York Undercover show African-Americans having professional jobs, having better speech awareness (for the most part), owning their own businesses and being leaders in their industry. Tyler Perry’s work has some of the same things but the imaging of stereotypical black people is more heavily rooted and mocked negatively.

The majority can relate more to the Cosby Show because even if you weren’t in that type of situation or household you saw that it was possible for a large black family to be successful in relationships and their careers. People that couldn’t relate wanted something to resemble more of their lifestyle which was hood, immoral, and full of tradition. And that is the exact mindset we need to run away from and not imitate. Having an African-American president further clarifies the image that needs to be portrayed because we’ve come a long way. We have more black professionals and business owners than ever before so we no longer have the piggy-back excuse of primarily using old hood traditions to get a message across because we’ve found a small crack in a dark cave. I would rather see what I can have or have a platform to reach for than looking at what I use to do to mock where I came from. Image is everything……

As technology continues to grow and advancements are made the more we’re going to be held accountable for all God has put in front of us. Whether through the internet, TV, text, email, blogs, PDAs, cars or music things are being presented that can help us grow as his children. People are available to get saved sitting in there own campus dorm room. More Christian broadcasts are being presented preaching the Word with understanding, Christian (conscious) rap’s production and quality of work has thoroughly increased therefore giving people different alternatives to listen to, and we can even watch live podcasts of inspiring messages on iPhones, iPods and Blackberries. It’s great that technology continues to expand but how many have actually thought of using that to impact or save lives rather than use it to further make our lives easier for us personally.

Different genres of Christian music are specifically being exposed so their will be absolutely NO excuse to why living holy and the message of Jesus Christ shouldn’t be accepted. I use to believe 2pac, Biggie, R.Kelly, 50, Kanye and others were the only alternatives for me to fully enjoy rap music but artists like Alphalex, Lecrae, Canton Jones, R-Swift, 1-1-6, Corey Red and Da TRUTH bring skill, talent and charisma just as well as those artists but the difference is that their substance is promoting the need for Jesus through creative parables and stories. We should be very excited about everything that’s new coming out but we should keep the creator of the “new” in mind so we can use it to its greatest extent. More advancements and alternatives mean more that’s going to be given and required of us.

Being single (un-married) we come across a lot of different people and personalities of the opposite sex. Some get confused in thinking that every person that comes into our lives is meant for us to exclusively date or to be with. God has a bigger picture in situations in dealing with men and women and we need to continue to be aware of what he’s requiring of us. I’ve been guilty multiple times of women being in my life that I knew or probably had a slight chance of being “wifey” material but ended up being another stepping stone toward my mission. Someone can be fine, smell good, and seems to fit the prototype but in reality they could be there for character building and maturity in certain areas. I’m not saying turn down somebody that looks good and has the certain intellect you prefer but have the initial intent that just maybe that person is not meant for you. And if it is God will make it clear spiritually and physically but to automatically think that she or he “could be the one” too soon could bring disappointment that should be put on ourselves not God.

If the dating or semi-relationship doesn’t work out as we desire most might unintentionally blame God but if we have the right pure intention going into the situation then we wouldn’t be disappointed. We could be in someone’s life to encourage, build-up, inspire, network, mature or to simply be a listening ear. Our emotions can get in the way of the true intent someone came into our lives. It’s better to look at the BIG picture of a circumstance and if it’s meant to be IT will happen.

I’m piggy-backing off one of my homeboy’s blog comments and a conversation with a friend weeks ago because I feel it needs to be said. Men and women can go back and forth all day talking about do’s and don’t‘s of dating/relationships. Also how men take advantage of certain situations knowing a commitment is not in sight. What’s silly is ALL of that can be summed up to a simple solution. A man who cheats on God will definitely cheat on YOU in return. The fact is a typical man WILL cheat on you in a relationship if the right opportunity presents itself. A man who cheats on his woman or wife cheats on God way before he cheated on his companion. Women can tell if men have a true relationship with God by how that man consistently talks, handles his business, carries himself and his habits. There are a lot of “good” men who SAY they’re grown, handle their business fairly accurate and seem to carry themselves well but the real test is in their spirit.

If a man is not feeding his spirit (reading the Word, spirit prayer, confessing, etc.) daily then the chances of an immoral act happening becomes greater. Morals are missing in today’s relationships and we wonder why sometimes things go south. The school system has gotten even worse since I left as a child. Why?….Because morals (prayer) has been stripped from the system therefore leaving room for more ignorance. People can make up their own standards (like waiting 3-4 months before having sex in relationships) but even that is fool’s gold in the big picture. It shows “class” on the initial surface but the intent is that he’s going to get some eventually so the waiting is only a moral contradiction justified. We (men) lust after beautiful women, their shape and smell naturally. The only way to fight that is with the spirit because the flesh undeniably wants to do the opposite of what the spirit wants. This is not a fool proof way to say a man won’t be tempted at all when he does feed his spirit often but having nothing at all is like him going outside with no coat on in 6 degree weather. It’s just not wise and can be deadly. It sets him up for failure without anything to rely on.

I know it’s important for both men and women to get into the Word but I could make an argument that it’s maybe more important for a woman. Especially if a lady is single looking for marriage because deception is crazy these days and unless she understands the Word or is truly led by the Holy Spirit then she has NO chance in being loved the way she truly desires to be loved because she won’t know the criteria. Once you know the Biblical prototype of a man and his characteristics then you’ve moved closer to knowing the truth.

A man should be the HEAD and not the tail. And in order for him to be the HEAD in a household he probably needs to be more mature and knowledgeable in certain areas. Wanting a man that’s exactly equal or a little behind your spiritual standard could be harmful to a relationship. You can get fractions of “love” along the way but you won’t be able to get the full cup unless you know what God requires of him. I’ve seen marriages where in the first few years their love wasn’t at God’s best simply because he wasn’t in the center of their marriage to begin with. Men need to test women as well to see if they’re compatible so it can be determined whether she’s a compliment or progress stopper. And women wonder: “I’m a good person, I look good, I treat him well, I give him what he wants and I’m thoughtful BUT he STILL cheats on me (or does me so wrong)!” I’ll tell you why, because he don’t know HIM BAAAABBBBYYYY! A lot of people KNOW God but not as many HAVE him for their own personal guide. Know the REAL standards and stop falling for cultural taboos.

Recently I saw that KRS-One, the Hip-Hop legend, is publishing a 600-page “Gospel of Hip-Hop” book! His quotes were: “In 100 years, this book will be a new religion on the earth.” He also said: “I respect the Christianity, the Islam, the Judaism but their time is up. I don’t have to go through any religion (or) train of thought, I can approach God directly myself.” C’mon man, is that what’s hot in the streets now?! Constantly people are trying to draw away from discipline and being held accountable so they go make their own doctrine or train of thought to conform to a certain lifestyle or thinking. The KRS-One I’ve come to recognize from different albums, interviews, and forums seems to be a pretty intelligent and articulate dude. This tarnishes my view of his principles for a couple reasons.

First it’s no TRUE religion but only through Christ can we reach God directly! Anybody that denies this is of the Anti-Christ spirit and we should be careful who we pay attention to (I John 4:1-4). I’m sure his book is well written with good human wisdom points which probably will sound logically genius but fortunately I know different. How in the world can Hip-Hop be a religion anyway?! I can see it being a culture or a way of style but to put it in the same breath as Christianity is laughable. The sad thing is that some “Hiphoppas” actually do hold it to that standard because of their lifestyle. Where did the mind-set most people (35 years and younger) get their “worldly” views from? The answer is (secular) Hip-Hop, whether that is consciously or sub-consciously.

Somebody “disses” and you have to get revenge by doing at least the same thing or worse….Hip-Hop. Getting drunk and living it up because it’s harmless and fun….Hip-Hop. Having sex is cool as long if you’re responsible and “RAP IT UP”…..Hip-Hop. Sex sales so I better do it so I can appeal to a broader audience…Hip-Hop. Still thanking God even though my lifestyle and constant actions don’t line-up to the “thanks”…..Hip-Hop. All I’m trying to do is get this money (by any means) and feed my family……Hip-Hop. Starting a family without getting married because I have the financial stability and/or society’s acceptance to do so….Hip-Hop.

The same scenarios can be said about the general public as a whole but these are some of the things Hip-Hop exudes as a commercial culture. I don’t think it’s ironic that ALL these circumstances go clearly against what God wants. And this is not saying I’m not a fan of Hip-Hop (as an art form and style) but I’m not conformed to that lifestyle nor do I think like that anymore. There will be more books, CDs, shows, or organizations like this to come but we have something far more powerful to withstand it and that’s Jesus Christ! Challenge things, don’t stand for logic.

Think about this….there is only ONE Bible, ONE God, and ONE true purpose personified all throughout the Word but in the world we have so many doctrines and religions. This is an “accepted” deception because we all know there’s a distinct difference in Muslims and Christians, Buddhists and Jehovah Witnesses, etc., etc. but where the devil tries to choke hold Christians is causing subtle confusion among people of the same faith. I Corinthians 14:33 (NCV) Paul states: “God is not a God of confusion but a God of peace. As is true in all the churches of God's people,.” This meaning anything that is confusing and hard to comprehend is NOT of God because he’s not capable of being confusing. Since we know God is not a God of confusion then why are their so many denominations in Christianity?! Can anyone tell me there isn’t any confusion in someone being of the same spirit (Christian) but have small yet vital differences in what is practiced or believed.

Christians get such a bad rap now because we’re divided among ourselves. Therefore giving the enemy room to come in and deceive those that are offended by pettiness. Mark 3:24-26 (NCV): “A kingdom that is divided cannot continue, and a family that is divided cannot continue. And if Satan is against himself and fights against his own people, he cannot continue; that is the end of Satan.” As you read you can see what division can do to those that are of the same kingdom. It says it CANNOT continue, just as much as black on black crime does to our community. We’re killing ourselves so how can we become stronger if we don’t unite. This is the same with people being divided amongst the same faith but having different interpretations of scripture. There is only ONE truth.

There are a reported 38,000 different Christian denominations! Yea, wow….that’s what I thought too. Whether it’s Roman Catholic, Eastern Catholic, Anglican, Oriental Orthodox, Protestant, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, Adventist, or etc. it never was in God’s plan for there to be divisions amongst those following Christ. We are ONE body and ONE spirit (I Corinthians 12:12-20) meaning although we have different personalities, interests and social statuses if we’re believers we STILL are of the same body because we’re in Christ. Ephesians 4:4-6 (NLT) says: “For there is One body and One Spirit, just as you have been called to One glorious hope for the future. There is One Lord, One faith, One baptism, and One God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all.” Then verse 25 continues to say: “So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.” Having over 38,000 different “bodies” (agendas) would contradict God’s Word. This is not to wrongly judge or to argue but for the Bible truth to be read. Also in between the denominations there are considerable disagreements (divisions) about which groups can be properly called Christians and disagreements arising primarily from doctrinal differences. If this is not confusing I don’t know what is.

If you look at the origin of the majority (or all) of the denominations you will see they’re primarily MAN made and there is no clear evidence as to where in the Bible they are relevant for us to follow. Paul warns us of these exact occurrences happening in the church in I Corinthians 1:10-13 (NCV) and begs us of what to do: “I beg you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that all of you agree with each other and not be split into groups. I beg that you be completely joined together by having the same kind of thinking and the same purpose. My brothers and sisters, some people from Chloe's family have told me quite plainly that there are quarrels among you. This is what I mean: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another says, "I follow Apollos"; another says, "I follow Peter"; and another says, "I follow Christ.” Christ has been divided up into different groups! Did Paul die on the cross for you? No! Were you baptized in the name of Paul? No!” These scriptures could also read as: “One of you says, “I follow Roman Catholic”; another says, “I follow Methodist”; another says, “I follow Baptist”; and another says, “I follow Christ.” Christ has been divided up into different groups! Did the Roman Catholic die on the cross for you? No! Were you baptized in the name of Lutheran? No!” It’s written and clear that if we’re believers of Christ then there is only ONE “denomination”, belief, and purpose and that’s Christianity (Non-denominational). We can’t break that down to anything else other than what it represents…..

Saturday vs Sunday

Getting into the whole denomination thing may leave a question like: Since we’re SUPPOSE to be “non-denominational” as Christians, then what about churches that worship on Friday or Saturday instead of Sunday? Isn’t that division or confusion amongst some Christians? The answer to the last question is….no. The Sabbath (Seventh) Day is on a Saturday historically even in Biblical terms. There are several references to prove that as so but to create a division and to argue about it is NOT valid. I personally recognize my Holy Day or primary day of worship on Sunday. The main and primary reason is Christ’s resurrection which was on the first day of week (Sunday).

In Mark 2:27-28 (NCV) reads: “Then Jesus said to the Pharisees, "The Sabbath day was made to help people; they were not made to be ruled by the Sabbath day. So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day." Meaning that day was made to help (strengthen) us, not made for us to be restricted or ruled by that day. Also Luke 6:5 (NLT) when Jesus said: “The Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath.” So Jesus said he’s Lord EVEN over the original Sabbath (which is Saturday). The only way we can get to God is through his son Jesus so if the Lord is our Savior and through his resurrection we were bought then it would make sense that we acknowledge the actually act that made our salvation available. There are other scriptures (I Corinthians 16:1-2 & Acts 20:7) that reference the first day of the week (Sunday) as the day to recognize but to rule out the original Sabbath Day would be wrong.

God already knew human wisdom would argue over circumstances as this so he allowed Paul to explain in Romans 14:5-6 (NLT): “In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose is acceptable. Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him. Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor the Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please the Lord and give thanks to God.” Also Colossians 2:16-17 and Galatians 4:8-10 speak of the same thing. So we can see that as long as the Bible and God’s word is being taught and personified then acknowledging a particular day really doesn’t make a difference. We don’t have to create different denominations or doctrines to satisfy something God mandated as a mute subject because Christians are still of one body, one spirit, one faith and one future. Whether it’s Saturday or Sunday we’re all still obligated to live holy even after that particular day has passed. To argue either way WOULD create division and wrong judgment and that’s exactly what the enemy wants anyway…..

One habit so called “playas” do have going for them is the fact that chasing a woman is at the forefront of their motives. The confidence and advanced knowledge that “if you don’t jump on the band-wagon then another chick will” is always intriguing and the curiosity is usually high. Now from my perspective, I’ve crossed out of the “playa” mentality but the chas-her is still beneficial even on the road to Christ. I’m going to use a few references to make a point starting with Proverbs 8:35 (Amp) which says: “For whoever finds me [Wisdom] finds life and draws forth and obtains favor from the Lord.” So that means we can obtain favor from the Lord by finding wisdom but in order to “find” it we must seek (go after) and have that mindset first. We can’t find anything by just sitting and not acting on opportunities. There are many times when we just have to trust God and wait on him BUT that’s after we’ve done everything in our own physical nature to set us up for that success. We can’t desire a certain position or job without seeking applications, researching companies and preparing for interviews.

God will do his job once we do ALL the things we can physically do ourselves. In reference to chasing a woman that can be said in the same context, Proverbs 18:22 (Amp) states: “He who finds a [true] wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” So if I find a (TRUE) wife then not only have I found a good thing I also obtain favor from God. Just like above, we can’t find anything unless we go after it initially. This is not saying the woman is not to do anything at all (please don’t misinterpret…lol) but initially the man should show the majority of interest. I believe the woman, if she has found a man that she desires, should seriously pray on it and if it’s in his will the opportunity will present itself. But her being the initial chaser is backwards. God is a God of order and if a woman tells you you’re her husband before you get that confirmation then you have been bamboozled my friend. It sounds good to hear but the order is all wrong.

Chas-her Pt. 2

A woman that shows the majority of interest to begin always ends up dissatisfied because the man is either too passive or uninterested to do certain activities that she feels should be automatic. If a man is NOT initially the chas-HER he WILL be passive on a lot of situations because he really didn’t have to work to get you in the first place so why start something he didn’t begin himself?! There are challenges sometimes in chasing because of the reasonable doubt most women have that the man has ill intentions. But once those barriers are broke down all the intrigue and interest will shift to the woman therefore equaling or in most cases surpassing the man’s because women are naturally more emotional. This is not saying if it’s not done this way then your relationship or marriage won’t work BUT I don’t believe it started out as being God’s best. A lot of things will work but if we do it God’s way then we’re not working off chance or statistics but his promise. And if God can make a promise, we can bank on that happening if we use his direction properly. The last reference is Proverbs 31:10 (Amp): “A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman--who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.” Who is HE who can find her? The man that’s a CHAS-HER…..

Shacking up is a notorious epidemic that seems justifiable and harmless. The statistics show that couples who do decide to “live together” before officially getting married are more likely to get a divorce than those that don’t. Men and women lie, numbers and God don’t! You have several couples that have survived this phase and are “happily married” but it necessarily doesn’t have to affect the marriage directly. It could be your children, career, finances, health, close relatives or friends, etc. that could reap the consequences of your shacking. Logically it sounds right: “We get to save more for our wedding and future”, “We get to see how the environment of living together is before marriage”, or “He or she is over here all the time anyway so we might as well do it.”

All are phrases of carnal minded people or Christians. The carnal mind is a depraved spirit that is set on those things which are not proper (Romans 1:28). Since a good number of couples are doing it and they seem to be doing “just fine” doesn’t disqualify the fact that God never ordained for couples to live together until marriage. Also for those that advise or suggest that shacking is ok are just as responsible because you’re speaking death on their relationship and will be held accountable for every idle word you speak (Matthew 12:36). The good news is that if we confess and repent then we are forgiven and made right instantly. The question would be why would anyone want to even scratch the surface of potentially hurting their marriage or family that has yet to begin for something that feels right?

Center Stage

I have been guilty of claiming this along with others: “God is first in my life” but what does that exactly mean? During an event a guest speaker (Dr. Mason) spoke briefly about this and in conclusion made much sense. Now before I get pounced upon let me say I don’t see anything wrong with the above statement, it’s the analogy (I’m about to explain) I want to express. When something is first you put it first then go to the next thing but when something is centered EVERYTHING that you do reflects that. I’m saying instead of him being first how about making him the center of our lives. If we do that all other parameters are being fulfilled as well. You can put God first then when you go over your girl’s or your man’s house do the same rules still apply? Or you put God first then you go hang out with your friends and don’t put into reference what you just put first.

He should be centered because ALL our actions are taken into account and should reflect us being a part of him. Ephesians 5:1 states (NLT): “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.” There are other references like I Corinthians 11:1-3 that speak on the same thing. If this holds true then everything to how we act to what we involve ourselves in should represent or be done acknowledging what we can do through him. And that doesn’t mean we have to stop having fun just be more mindful…

Back-Bite

What I’m about to touch on is something EVERYBODY can do more of. The phrase “Walking in Love” (Matthew 22:37-40) is used a lot in the church today as something we need to apply to our life especially dealing with others. There are several references in the Bible that points to the benefits and/or consequences if we chose to apply it or ignore it. Of course there are some people out here that have no good intentions or motives to do positive things for us but I primarily want to pinpoint those of us that “think” we do but still end up being held in a negative light. For example, if I know somebody is doing something wrong or is seen as a threat (or is being perceived as such) and in some way, shape, or form I have access to them I need to talk to the accuser directly. I don’t need to talk anything behind their back that I wouldn’t in some way say to them. If I don’t know that person on a personal level I can’t heavily take into consideration what I hear or what I might occasionally see. Talking to that person’s close family member/friend, a random associate, or to the person that the wrong is being done to isn’t the best way to relay the message. If access is available I need to talk to the person directly before gossip, slander, and things of that nature occur.

Sorry to say but this a problem mainly with women. Not to say men don’t have the same problems but women take the majority of this circumstance. It’s so much back-biting done in churches today and we wonder why people leave that particular ministry. I would like to take a poll to see how many families, couples, and single members leave their church because of the Word being brought forth or because of some other mess and pettiness that has nothing to do what really matters. And what really matters is whether you’re growing and constantly learning in the things of God. If you’re not, you probably need to re-evaluate your membership because it may not be beneficial for you to stay. I love my church and the motives of our ministry but I don’t agree with some of the ways and activities done within it. Walking in love can make or break members of the church. Sure we should shrug things off like it’s nothing and move forward but when it gets to a certain point that’s easier said than done and some peoples’ skin aren’t as tough as others. Instead of talking about somebody we need to try helping them or move them in the right direction because God loves them like he loves us.

First on Thursday evening the Behind the Music: Lil Wayne special came on (straight ridiculous), Michael Jordan’s induction speech at the Hall of Fame (it wasn’t easy for me to point this out because I’ve been a huge fan and admirer), then Serena Williams outburst at the US Open, and finally the funniest moment of the weekend was Kanye West’s “interruption” at the VMAs. Ok now for a brief disclaimer for these incidents/events: No one is perfect, everyone make mistakes, and to everyone I named above I have much respect and admiration for their craft and/or ability.

Since that has been said let me point out Matthew 15:16-20 (NLV) which says: “Don’t you understand yet?” Jesus asked. “Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer. But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you. For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.” We can truly see where somebody is through their actions but Jesus said it’s the words we speak that really defile us. They both go together, if your words are pure, genuine, and nice your actions will follow but if not your actions and speech will show different.

A lot of the times when an athlete or entertainer is being quoted or interviewed they’re in a setting where they can get away with saying the right thing at the right time but that will be exposed at some point. Every person is going to be accounted for when the cameras and lights actually go off. And some things can be such a habit that it will even be brought to the public because that particular person can’t see a difference. People can have so much (money, power, fame, glamour, ability, etc.) but have nothing at all. Now having those things are good if it’s done in a matter to which those things aren’t being glorified or put in the center but greed is in abundance in our society.

Lil Wayne has everything this world (key-word) can offer: money, cars, power, women, admiration, and success but his spirit life has to be empty because according to him: “I can do whatever I want when I want” (He’s a gangster ya’ll…HA). If only he could see it was God who saved him from dying from that bullet wound as a child he would see he owes him his life and should live glorifying Christ instead of everything that will soon pass away.

Michael Jordan’s speech was petty and showed what he really values above all else: BASKETBALL. In the perspective of where he did his speech (The Basketball Hall of Fame) it doesn’t seem like a fair assessment but when you spend the majority of your induction speech roasting others and basically personifying the game of basketball as a god to him its clear where his heart is. The other inductees were gracious and rarely spent time talking about themselves instead showed gratitude and humbleness toward those that helped them along the way. Although some speeches weren’t as interesting, they showed good class and dignity and even the “greatest of all-time” couldn’t follow suit. “Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever desires to be first among you must be your slave.” (Matthew 20:26-27). In “regular” terms that means to be humble, it’s not you but me (Jesus) through you that you’re able to do those things. Serena Williams was right because it wasn’t a foot fault but was real wrong in threatening and cursing the lady out for her bad judgment. People are to be known from their actions and how they handle themselves afterwards. There is no better example than Mr. Ye’ West. He purposely interrupted Taylor Swift winning her award for best female video and wrongly discounted her loudly claiming “Beyonce had the greatest video of all-time…ALL-TIME” (Lol). Though it was wildly hilarious when it first happened, it was wrong on so many levels. And most know that this is not his first outburst like this on a similar stage. Yea we may laugh but that’s not necessarily a good thing. To sum it up, even our most respected and successful people are a product of the world’s system and its not that we should stop supporting and admiring their accomplishments but they are in NO position for us to emulate or our kids to idolize. GET CHRIST, that’s the only thing that will last forever!

I can make this short and sweet. The reason I’m putting Republican Joe Wilson in a post by himself is because his action proved worthy of separation from the other controversial incidents but nevertheless all are in the same category. All were ignorant and not done with integrity but what Joe Wilson did was EVIL. Ok let’s say you don’t agree with President Obama and his speech, is that the way to go about disagreeing and shouting “YOU LIE!” to a world-wide televised audience and during his address to Congress?! He will be held accountable for that action. But just like most of us in the U.S. realize that although that remark was uncalled for and a smack in the face, it wasn’t something we thought couldn’t happen given the circumstance. Yes he did apologize so all we can do is take him for his words. Regardless it was blatantly disrespectful and shouldn't have happened in the first place but we all know what we’re up against. Said best by former President Jimmy Carter: “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American. I live in the South, and I have seen the South come a long way, and I have seen the rest of the country that has shared the South’s attitude toward minority groups at that time, especially African-Americans. And that racism inclination still exists….It’s an abominable circumstance and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply.” Exactly……

A lot of people like the thought of change or how it sounds (especially if what was originally in process wasn't as productive) but to actually implement the change is different. President Obama (yes it’s President NOT Mr., Barack, or just plain Obama) in the past several months has been batted, ridiculed, and bombarded with accusations dealing not only with his proposed health care plan but also his character. I can’t say that I’m surprised but GOODNESS it’s so crazy how things turn so quickly. This time last year all everyone was talking about was by ANY MEANS necessary to get Bush out of office. Then as the two main candidates were selected it became clear that Obama was the most intelligent, stern, and creative leader for the American people. His whole campaign was centered around “CHANGE” and now for some reason its shocking news that he wants to change what was originally established. Isn’t that why we elected him as President? Or did we just expect a “fill-in” to roll over and just govern what was already falling apart? C’mon people let’s not scream for it then when it’s proposed act like we didn’t see it coming! Be careful what you ask for.....

A circumstance like President Obama is going through is indirectly similar to Matthew 10 when Jesus sent out all his disciples to go preach/teach in Israel. At this time they were going to deliver the message of Christ to a nation that wasn’t accustomed to such news and laws. And what the disciples were preaching was meant for their old ways and laws to conform to the Kingdom of God, but Jesus knew that wouldn’t go over well with the majority of the people there so he warned his apostles to be ready for threats, persecutions, and division. I put this scripture in reference because what President Obama is proposing in health care is NOT of the original law or ways we’re use to doing things and because of that he and his administration are being labeled dictators, socialists, and anti-Christs’. His intentions are geared toward helping instead of being based off of monetary value. Not to say the President can’t and won’t make mistakes but we should trust him as our leader because he is who God appointed us to be governed under at this time. Even President Obama was quoted while Bush was in office (I’m paraphrasing): “Although I disagree with some of his tactics, I still see him as my leader and I’ll treat him as such.” Romans 13 thoroughly detail how we should treat our governing authorities even in tough circumstances. Anybody not ruling under God’s authority will be dealt with in God’s way. We can’t try to make that ruling on our own.

Now from a simple A and B perspective, there are approximately 46 million people without health insurance that live in the United States. Most people are not insured because of the costs and rates of insurance companies and/or have to be employed to get somewhat of a reasonable rate. When the majority of people get real ill, the probability of affording the best and proper healthcare is very low. President Obama along with his administration don’t have to worry about such a circumstance as goes for other wealthy (fortunate) Americans but what he is proposing is not for self but for the majority. I’m personally insured through the company I work for and I’m blessed to be able to afford my coverage but what about others that don’t and for whatever circumstance can’t fully afford that right?

About 60 percent of people in the U.S. get health care through work and the majority has been documented as being very satisfied. Giving how some people are losing jobs and aren't insured, the rates of insurance for those would significantly increase and become unaffordable unless a new option is presented. The President proposes that the government would regulate a healthcare exchange (which is a virtual marketplace where individuals and small businesses can comparison shop) so that insurance companies can’t discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions or charge crazy amounts for similar coverage. Also he has said this option would keep private insurers honest by competing with them so they can’t charge unfair rates for the basic coverage.

Some who disagree with this proposal always point to the money issue but since when has the U.S. been hurting for money (for real hurting not what you hear on the FOX news hurting)?! We have athletes and entertainers that are near billionaires so how is it that we can think that our powerful government can’t come up with the goods on a actual important issue. So the athletes and entertainers are going to have more than the government eventually?! Yea right….won’t happen. The wealthy has been and will continue to get wealth. We’re in a “recession” but some folks are living higher on the hog more now than they ever were. Most of the big spenders are upset about this healthcare reform because the “extra” on the side they are use to getting will now be in jeopardy. The government makes the money and distributes it so how can money be a PRIMARY issue?! On top of this the proposal would be less than the program others suggest “would be a better option”. The basic theme for the President’s proposal is to help those that are not as fortunate as us. With that being personified in his plan how can someone be opposed to an equal opportunity base where people can get help that don’t have the necessary monetary means to afford it? We’ll see what happens soon enough……

In Between the Lines

Most will admit that they’re seeking some type of knowledge or want to increase in the process of winning in life. When it comes to the Bible there are particular or detailed circumstances not specifically word for word written in his Word. Like, “Thou shall not gamble”, “It wouldn’t be the wisest decision to join a Black Greek Organization”, “Don’t masturbate”, “Don’t go out with that guy just because he’s nice” or “Pornography is not good for God’s children”, etc. (You get the point). These specified phrases or statements won’t be found in the Word no matter what translation we choose but I know for them to be true. A lot of us look for exact specific words or phrases to justify if that act is wrong but honestly God holds us accountable for being able to put parables and illustrations together NOT just specific words. Yes the Bible is a book with great stories, examples, and confessions but it’s SUPPOSE to be used for life application. It’s pretty plain in the Word dealing with most activities but others we have to be willing to analyze situations, examine words, and begin stuff from its original root then come with a conclusion on what God says or if he would be pleased. That’s why when we’re saved the Holy Spirit comes inside of us and makes clear a lot of questions that we may have. We will start to think differently than your average person. Godly people are EXTRAORDINARY in the world’s system and it has been for ages. I personally am coming to realizing that and it has paid dividends when trying to figure out what’s good and what’s not so good to do. If I do make a wrong judgment God is always there to clean it up some how. In I Corinthians 10:23 it states (NIV): “Everything is permissible but not everything is constructive.” Sometimes I think if there were such a thing like an Ebonics’ Bible then more would catch on or be more attentive to comprehension. Instead of “Flee from fornication” it would be “Man you know she burnt lil Rico last week so why give her a second thought” or “STOP having sex until you’re married dummy, can’t you READ the words coming out of my MOOUTH!!” Lol…. If an activity is not distinctly described as a sin or not good in the Bible, we should ask: “Do I personally feel convicted doing this? Is this beneficial for me or can it become a harmful addiction? Will participation in this activity be constructive or destructive to a Christian lifestyle and witness?” Just because the Bible doesn’t specifically call out a certain action doesn’t necessarily mean it pleases God (or vice versa). Sometimes we have to read in between the lines or put things together from various scripture references to get the knowledge we’re desperately seeking. And we can’t do that being OCCASIONAL (once or twice a week) Bible readers, it has to be a daily routine. All the praying in the world can’t substitute getting into his Word……

“Why are you always referring to scripture when writing? Why can’t you stop thinking sometimes and just live? Dude why are you so spiritual sometimes? Be regular….loosen up. Is it THAT serious bruh?” These are some of the questions either I’ve been asked or I’m sure some have thought of. Honestly, I want to write or talk about big booties/breasts, small waists, thick legs, how predictable some men and women are, why different celebrities do what they do, or specifically why did Bow-Wow sign with Lil Wayne (Hmmm…..) but what good does that do the reader because we can see or hear that whenever we turn on a TV, radio, or read a popular blog site. I want to say or write things that are of some kind of shock value or something someone else might think but probably won’t say.

All my moral principles and values come from the Word of God. I’m striving to line my lifestyle up with the Word so they can become one. Will I ever get there 100%? No, but I can get fairly close without you telling much difference. God knows we all fall short of his ultimate standard but don’t accept “falling short” as an excuse to not do better. The answers to the above questions go as such: Because I figure you would believe God rather than me. If I stop thinking and testing motives or lifestyles then I’ll be in the majority and that’s not a good thing. I’m spiritual because I read the Word consistently. And it’s great not to take ourselves too seriously all the time but if your lifestyle is “not seriously” referencing what you say God means to you then yes it’s THAT serious bruh. 1+1=2……

Doing my reading, I came across Romans 14 (the whole chapter) and it made me realize some things of how I’ve been feeling (especially with the last few blogs I’ve posted). Verse one says: “Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them what they think is right or wrong.” If you believe and confess that Jesus was a man here on earth that died for our sins and he rose and he’s your Savior then we have no problems. Everything else can and will be debatable so sometimes we have to agree to disagree. I get fired up when all we think we have to do is believe only. MATURE (key-word) spirit-led believers know that there are many more things to do and act as such not just to say they’re a believer or Christian and continue to do whatever they do or approach things not as a true believer. Everyone has their problem or addiction that makes them “human” but what are you doing to try to overcome them? Or you just accepting that “I’m flawed, God knows it so I’ll do what I can do to control it”. Sorry but if we try to control things in our own efforts, it’s going to be a lost cause anyway because we alone are NOT capable but the spirit is. For example, if having sex or unfaithfulness is a personal issue you know needs to be addressed then attempt to fix it and stop putting yourself in compromising situations. That can go for a broad number of things but being JUST a believer is and never will be enough.

I recently sent an attachment through email to a few friends and associates about Greek organizations and if it goes against Christianity. Let me point out that I’m not in a Greek organization nor do I have problems with those that are in them. It was an interesting read to say the least and writing a blog about it won’t do that much good because the subject is so broad. The basic points were that the original Greek letter origin comes from different Greek gods, resemblances, colors, and/or oaths. Certain things in different Greek ritual books give their praise, admiration, and/or “worship” to that name or organization and not to Christ. Several other points were written and were lining up with principles in the Bible that God said for us NOT to do. In the next posts I’ll give my personal view but for now I wanted to focus on the content of the topic. We all need to be mindful of the stuff we involve ourselves in. It might look good on the surface but the substance is totally blemished. Just like a woman or man can be “fine” in appearance but their maturity, morals, and attitude are that of an ugly individual. We want to be part of a lot of organizations because of what they can do for us (or recognition) but what really are we representing? Do your research before associating with things that look untainted on its physical foundation. A good friend quoted to me before to question everything until there aren’t any questions left, and then you’ve gotten closer to the truth.

Ready or Not

When I think of the verses in Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 (New Living Translation) it stands out immediately when I think about Greek organizations (especially now since I received that informative email). The verses say: “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new.” Ok let me give you my personal view on “Greeks”. I know some won’t take this well but that’s to be expected. After a little analyzing, research, and thought I can say I see Greek organizations as being the “new” highly productive “gang life” (yes, I did just say that). It’s just twisted in a way to make it sound and look better on basic principle and value but the substance is a waste of time deterred away from Christ. Lord knows there are plenty of other things to distract our attention without having anything extra. Your original gangs such as the Bloods, Crips, or GDs’ all have their own colors, sign/symbol, call, and/or handshake. They also show or portray “brotherhood”, togetherness, and loyalty.

Greek organizations symbolize the same values except they’re known for doing well in the community and providing good networking to all their members. Remember the verse above when it says “nothing is truly new.” Even the devil knows the Word and he’ll use just enough of what God sees as righteous to fool those on the initial surface. But in the end if it’s not representing or giving total glory to Christ (especially in the origin of its existence) we should think twice about it. Jehovah witnesses and Muslims have some “good” values and principles that are generally linked to good people but if it’s not the existence of Christ then all that “good” is just a cover up from the real truth and manipulates what really matters. This could be said about other things and cultures as well but this is one of the most popular trends amongst African-Americans plus it’s a debatable discussion with two sides to it. Obviously I think its just one side.

Ready or Not (pt.2)

If you throw a “Crip” sign to a Crip and you’re not one then that Crip would probably be pretty heated and may do something crazy or violent. You do the same thing to a Delta and she will take some kind of offense and depending on the person she may start an argument or worse. It’s the same thing just on a different level. Private meetings, parties, and dances that are exclusively for those groups and it separates them from the rest of the pack. People getting hazed and doing “odd jobs” are done in both original gangs and Greek organizations. Some of the same things are done just done on a social level. Ques’ have their stomp dance, Crips have the “C” walk. Gangs have certain places they hang and fellowship and “Greeks” have either a house and/or spot on or near campus they gather at. There could be other detailed examples as such but it’s all the same things accept Greek organizations are far more accepted and rewarded.

There are several elite and prestigious alum of Greek organizations but that doesn’t mean it’s the best thing to do. Your family might have 2 or 3 generations of Greek organization ties but that link can be broken at anytime. The best example of course is Jesus and he didn’t need any groups or organizations to separate himself from others. Wherever he went everyone could go and the only one he distance himself from was Satan. We have a “group” we all are or should be apart of and that’s Christ, that’s why we’re called Christians. I do have friends, close relatives, and associates that are in Greek organizations but it doesn’t mean I think they’re bad people or they’re going to hell. I just believe you need to re-evaluate (or be open about) your status with that Greek organization and if you feel somewhat convicted then do the right thing, if not then keep doing what you do. Remember to “test and prove everything until you recognize what is good. Abstain from evil in whatever form or whatever kind it may be.” (I Thessalonians 5: 21-22 Amplified version) Give me some feedback……

What Really Matters?

What really matters? Is it the knowledge you have or how you apply that knowledge into your lifestyle? Everyone battles through this at some point whether it’s knowing you need to start researching for your paper before it becomes too late to make the absolute best grade. Or you knowing you need to stop a certain habit to reach the next level in your life but it just seems so hard to overcome (or you just simply don’t care). If we have the knowledge we know to be better and don’t apply it, our knowledge is useless. Just as a person who knows what to do to be saved through Christ but if he or she doesn’t literally confess him as your Lord and Savior you’re STILL going to hell with all that knowledge. If you know drug addictions and sex outside of marriage are against the will of God why not seek help to try to overcome them instead of compromising his word because of circumstances. People are destroyed from a lack of knowledge but if you have that knowledge and don’t use it, you’re just another joe going with the flow. There could be several other examples but what really matters to you? DON’T FIT IN, STAND OUT!

Word Power

Many discount or lessen the power of our words but Matthew 12:35-37 puts a stamp on that conclusion. Really you can start with verse 33 but these passages stand out to me because sometimes we all are careless with our words. And personally (if you’ve reading some of the previous posts) I speak about the cursing thing. Yes, I do believe this is my official soap box topic but it could go beyond that and be lying, dirty/hurtful jokes, hateful words, etc. In these verses Jesus is speaking and the Amplified Bible is best (I believe) in stating this:
“The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things. But I tell you, on the day of judgement men will have to give account for EVERY idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak. For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.”

He said EVERY inoperative (which means without effect or void) nonworking word we speak will either acquit or condemn us on judgement day. Obviously there are man made words that were placed in this world to defile us and partly disconnect us from the total perfect will of God. Hopefully you’re a believer so you know there will be a judgement day. We will all be accounted for every action, deed, and word done in secret and in public. Our “words” are a big deal in the Kingdom of God. That’s not to say no one will fall but all I’m saying is be careful…..just because you don’t take it seriously doesn’t mean God does.

I really hope the people that are reading my blogs don’t think or believe that I’m trying to be “Mr. Perfect”. I have flaws and I struggle with the same stuff the majority of people do. I’m still in the process of being, thinking, and doing better. Should I know the names of the latest porn stars of today? Probably not but I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t know some of the popular names out there in the industry and seen them in action. To keep it 100, I’m not completely delivered from that phase (yet) but I have made significant strides over the past couple of years. No, this is not a confessional but I did feel convicted to briefly touch on it. Some things are easier than others to disconnect from, so what might be harder for me might be simple for the next person. I do believe there are two things you can control no matter the circumstance: That’s your mouth and appearance. Everyone can control their speech and how they present themselves. Nobody can force anything to come out of your mouth unless you personally process then say it. Same thing with appearance, you look “bummy” if you wear “bummy” clothes. You will be perceived with what you say and your appearance. Somebody that doesn’t know you at all can come up with a quick synopsis of you within the first 5-10 minutes because of these two factors (whether they are speaking directly to you or they happen to just notice you from a distance). I believe addictions such as sex, alcohol, gambling, pornography, drugs, eating, facebook (HA), shopping, and even video games are far harder to overcome. Whatever you struggle with most is probably what you’re addicted to. We're all "Convicts" in some way meaning we ALL have and will make mistakes but the magnitude of those mistakes should decrease rather than stay the same.

“You can pay for school, but you can’t buy class”. A true statement by Jay-Z is being portrayed daily by fake woman imposters. Yes men can have the same stigma but most educated women very often claim there name or describe themselves as such when in reality it’s proven otherwise. Education, degrees, and looks alone don’t make you classy; it just spices up your resume. The definition of CLASS reads like this: “Excellence; exceptional merit. Elegance, grace, or dignity, as in dress and behavior. The best or among the best of its kind. Add elegance, dignity, style, etc.” To get more in detail the word ELEGANT (Elegance) means: “excellent, fine, superior; characterized by or exhibiting refined, tasteful beauty of manner, form, or style.” DIGNITY means: “bearing, conduct, or speech indicative of self-respect or appreciation of the formality or gravity of an occasion or situation.” Ok since this is the true definition, why is it “classy” for a woman to curse either being at work or hanging socially? It’s not cute. The word dignity is used a few times in the definition and it clearly states: “speech indicative of self-respect or appreciation of the formality”. There is no elegance or grace of a woman cursing or constantly complaining. To those that practice either one on a regular or on a need to basis please don’t use the word classy to describe yourself. Sure you’re not the only female talking like that but please be different, STAND OUT. Most I’ve heard doing this are college graduates or had some type of education after high school. Whatever the circumstance, there is no excuse!

Just because men don’t point out or bring up this subject much doesn’t mean its not being thought of or processed. Sure we’ll probably laugh or smirk about it but trust when I tell you it sounds ignorant. The last thing a man of any respectable status or lifestyle wants to hear is a nice looking woman consciously cursing. Even if that man is strictly your friend, a certain respect value goes down because your DIGNITY has been compromised. Therefore you go into that box where you’re sifted out from the women that can actually hold an adult conversation without cursing. Everybody can hold their tongue when they’re around “church folk”, around someone’s parents, or in a professional setting but what about after that time has past? When a woman talks like that it tells a lot about how she thinks and perceives things. And most women wonder why they always attract “these losers”: First check your speech and the way you carry yourself then see if your outfit exhibits what you want to embody as a whole. If you keep getting into relationships with men that are disrespectful, cheaters, too prideful, etc. then you should check your speech and/or appearance. If you talk trashy (whether frequent or on occasion), that’s what you’re going to attract either in a man’s actions or words. If you want to keep cursing then be prepared for much of the same, if you want change speak with REAL C-L-A-S-S (at all times) and carry yourself as such. There is no “in between” unless you want an “in between” type of guy. It’s your choice but don’t complain about the lack of quality respectful men when you don’t prove to be worthy of one.

Not to have any double standards, it would only be right for me to tap in on men that claim their name as being “classy” as well. In male terms this is called being a gentleman. This won’t take near as long to explain but let me point out the definition of a true gentleman: “A well-mannered and considerate man with high standards of proper behavior.” Usually a gentleman ends up with a classy lady because a real gentleman will not settle for anything less. If you curse, you’ll more than likely end up with a woman who does the same (if not more). If your values are twisted, don’t expect a woman whose values that are in order to want to be with you. Nobody is going to be exactly the same but certain standards should be. Every honest good man wants a woman that speaks well, willing to exercise, is attractive, ambitious, spiritually connected, can cook, is versatile, and (when the time is appropriate) is a straight freak. Most of these qualities are driven by what we as men bring to the table. A good woman will consciously or sub-consciously follow certain actions of her companion. Let me be brief as possible (if I can): Of all the women I’ve come across so far, the ones I’ve had the most genuine connection with are women with children. It’s one of those things where I really can’t do the subject great justice in a blog but I could show you what I’m talking about better than I could tell you. As I was thinking about this I was trying to analyze the best way to present the message. I don’t have any kids of my own, I’m still young and never been married, I have a nice job and my own apartment, and if I had to pick between two women with the same qualities and looks I feel I would chose the one without a child. Even with me stating those facts it’s the “X” factor a woman with a child brings. It might be the flow and depth of her conversation, maturity of her lifestyle, an attitude of certain toughness, the confidence of her demeanor, her ambition, or simply her ability to relax and enjoy the other’s company. Also I believe some have reached a level of spiritual maturity that prior to having a child she didn't attain. This is not to say women who are single without children can’t have the same “X” factor but I haven’t come in contact with many (maybe I need to get out more…lol). I guess what I’m saying, from my point of view thus far, women with children seem to be more “seasoned” and ready to bake. On the other hand, everyone in between is either still “marinating” waiting to be processed or you’re straight spreadin’ food poison! There will always be exceptions to a theory but as of now this is it...I'm just sayin

Being single has its perks but some of those “perks” are rooted from selfishness. Whether it's not wanting to spend the necessary time, money, or mental space it takes a good dose of selfishness to be single. From my point of view it's nothing wrong with that because everyone has that right if they so chose. I personally love the single stage I’m in at the moment but to say its all benefits and no drawbacks is a straight LIE! Singleness feels great until you get lonely and want that interaction or touch from the opposite sex. The truth is men and women need each other in some way, shape, or form. Whether it’s the gentleness of a woman, firmness of a man, emotions of a woman, or the A & B point of view of a man it’s all relevant to the culture of life. Sure we would be “straight” without the other but we wouldn’t be functioning at our absolute best and displaying our full personality God gave us. When you’re single you have options and with some of those options come consequences. For instance, let’s say I’m out with a nice female friend and we’re having a good time etc. etc. then one thing leads to another and we end up of having sex. Now in a typical male point of view its: “Ok we did the thing, it was cool, let’s keep chillin’ and move along”. More than likely that woman is thinking something 180 from what he would be. First let me point out having sex (without marriage) brings up a whole bag of stuff neither party are ready to deal with.

The single life can bring along several misconceptions or misunderstandings whether you’re having sex or not because of lack of communication, knowledge, or common sense between date partners or “friends” of the opposite sex. What might be a friendly outing of two mature adults eating at a nice restaurant to me might be something totally different to a young lady. Even if it’s explained prior, actions could show different. As of late 2006, I made a personal commitment not to have sex anymore until marriage. Since then I’ve struggled miserably (at times) and in some circumstances failed trying to compromise what I could get away with without literally having sex. I made this statement to magnify being single, having my own residence, and having a special love for women is a lethal combo. Yes I‘m single and free to go out with whoever I chose but when the attraction and connection reaches a certain level it seems I’m at a gray area because I can’t do what my body wants me to. Well let me not say “can’t do”, how about: “I know I shouldn’t do”….HA. Those that do are probably laughing and thinking I’m highly underrating the single life. Also let me say it’s not all about emotions and the physical but being single could allow you to concentrate more on your education, your gift, business, career, or anything else you have a desire to accomplish. I definitely see being single as a plus but the road can get rocky at times especially for young people living for Christ. When a man and a woman that are attracted to one another consistently link up, something is bound to happen. Even though I know this…..I LIKE IT! LOL….keep praying for my sanity.….

I was watching something last week on NBATV and my friend and I were trippin’ hard about it. This particular blog is primarily for the MEN (strictly of the heterosexual influence, all others PLEASE seek Jesus NOW) and just to put it out there to be known. Truth is most men (in a general statement) don’t express their “emotional” feelings toward another man for various reasons. Especially when telling one of your boys you “Love” him. This might be the same homeboy that you and him “shared” a girl back in highschool, been in competition on who dated the baddest chick, or simply was your “roadie” you went out with consistently chasing after “light-brights”. Which ever circumstance it might be, we BOTH know we’re far from being homo so why can’t I tell you “I love you”? Ok…Lol.. it does sound a little strange at first because we’re not use to hearing it from one another often but it’s a good thing to have that love between brothers.

The majority of my closet male friends stick closer than my own blood brothers because I communicate with them more often on a daily basis either through text, cell, or email and I physically hang out with them more frequently. That’s not a knock on my blood brothers but even scripture states in Proverbs 18:24 (New Living Translation): “There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.” Nothing can disconnect or describe what blood brothers have between each other but everyone needs at least one true friend that they can rely on through life. I’ve been blessed to have more than one real friend (some closer than others) and I try not to take them for granted. Although words can’t express how much I love interacting and getting to know females, they do get on my nerves on occasions and that male fellowshipping especially during those times are much appreciated. Having a good name is pretty big to what we can get out of life and myself along with others need to examine the meaning. Let me give some scriptures to reference to so you know its not just coming from my personal writing or thinking: (New Living Translation preferably) Genesis 20:15-17; Exodus 21: 28-29; Joshua 6: 26-27; Nehemiah 9:10, 13:13; Psalms 89:16, 109:21; Proverbs 3:4, 22:1, 24:8, 25:9-11; Ecclesiastes 7:1; I Timothy 3:1-3; Titus 1:6; Hebrews 11:2 & 39. There is evidence found all over the Bible discussing the meaning and what it did for those chosen people in their own lives. Your reputation alone can get you blessed or caught in some mess. Hate to bring it up but recently singer Chris Brown publicly apologized for his domestic violence incident and he brought up the fact he grew up in that type of home. I’m sure that wasn’t on his mind specifically before he laid the smack down to his girlfriend at the time but sub-consciously that’s how he reacted. I don’t believe he just “happened” to act that way at that moment. That reaction was in him from him seeing it as a little boy (even though he knows for a fact it is TOTALLY wrong).

That could be the same for being a “playa”, cheating, gambling, robbing, having children out of wed-lock, divorce, stubbornness, etc. All this stuff can sub-consciously or consciously be instilled in your personal life as well as your child’s even though you tell them it’s not right. For the most part we’re all action driven and until what we say lines up to action nobody of real importance will pay much attention. I think its cool and a big challenge to build our own legacy. I plan on having a family one day and to know I’m the leader and my actions will determine OUR growth is pressure but it’s good pressure. Until then I’m attempting to build my legacy for my future family as a single man by handling my business and doing things I know need to be done. As a result I’ll succeed and grow as a man of God and be that much better. Just know reputations are being made daily and the accumulation of those daily actions turn into your legacy. That’s one of our purposes too (for those that choose) is to multiply and leave a good name.

Legacy Revealed

What kind of legacy do want to leave for people and your family to remember? Wealth inheritance, accomplishments, property or fame might be some of the answers but what would all of those things mean without a good name or reputation. Don’t get me wrong wealth, accomplishments, and property are good to leave behind but it won’t be much to stand on without a good reputation and or name to multiply what you already have. In the Bible the word “reputation” is used in both Old and New Testaments. In the book of Esther, Mordecai’s reputation spread throughout the nation and he became more and more powerful. Now whether that’s a good or bad reputation is left up to the individual. Both ways it will eventually spread and bring either good or bad to you and your family.

I think most men get a lot of things twisted with this theory both being single and married (especially marriage). Even being single you can have a bad name or reputation. If you do actions that lead to that conclusion you can bring that same reputation to your potential companion because they are associated with you. Good example would be if you get pulled over for carrying dope not only will you get arrested so will the other passengers that were with you simply because of association. Women especially need to be careful who they are seriously dating because assumptions and perceptions are being made constantly and could be damaging your reputation without you even knowing it. Men need to be on alert as well because the same can happen to us.

We can ALL front and act like what others think “don’t matter” but what another perceives or hears could be the difference of you getting that business deal you’ve been working hard on, that promotion you think you deserve at work, or anything you feel you have the rights to. You NEVER know who knows who or who God has lined up to help influence someone else to give you your big break. It’s a small world (and its getting even smaller) and the person you badly mistreat today might be associated with a decision you want to go in your favor 5 years from now. Build a good reputation and a good name by being integral in actions and in deeds so every generation, starting with you, will have that same legacy of righteousness to live by.

I was recently part of a small panel discussing tattoos and if it’s wrong to get them according to public opinion and biblical standards. Of course we went over Leviticus 19:28 which states (New Living Translation): “Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.” During these times in the Bible people were making marks on themselves in idolizing other things/people other than God. These laws were given to the people by Moses from God in the Old Testament and we know that some laws were overruled by Jesus in the New Testament. I can’t find neither have I heard anything else in the Bible specifically going AGAINST tattoos. Although I don’t have any tattoos nor do I plan on getting any, I can’t point or judge anyone that does. Now there is a line to that statement I believe because if someone has a tattoo saying: “White power, White devil, Kill whitey, or anything of that manner then that’s where I see major conflict. I see everything being about motives and about convictions. If I felt somewhat convicted in getting a tattoo (for whatever reason) I shouldn’t go through with the process because I believe that would be the Holy Spirit talking to me and making me feel uneasy about the decision. Everyone is not convicted on the same situations whether that’s getting a tattoo, heavy drinking, manipulating people, etc. so results will vary. If you’re not convicted and it isn’t going against the Word of God I say DO IT! Just make sure you have a pure motive to back up of your original thought and aren’t following the majority.

Got a question…and I know this won’t be popular amongst some but why do the only time you hear MOST music artists refer to or “thank” God is in their acceptance speeches. “Yea yea first I’d like to thank God cause without him there is no ME” then the next sentence is: “D#$%, I wasn’t expecting this so I didn’t prepare a speech.” Lol….I’m thinking like: “Wow, for real”. It sounds good to acknowledge God but the real acknowledgement is in our actions. Please someone tell or explain to me different (I’m open to being wrong….but be prepared with evidence). If I was a spokesperson against black on black crime and how it’s tearing down our community then a couple months later I’m guilty of murdering two black males in a Jamaica Queens project you, the media, AND Reverend Al Sharpton would be slappin’ me up and down the justice system screaming for 20 to life. I would be contradicting my stand against the violence I was so adamant speaking on just a few months back. That’s how I look at some artists in the music industry today. It makes you sound real “grounded” and humble for a moment then its back to reality.

To his credit Lil Wayne always acknowledges “god” in his speeches(remember the devil believes in God himself…just pointing out) but yet he’s on stage with his pants fallin’ off, 12-year old girls, either cursing or blastin’ the “N” word every other phrase (on live basic cable TV mind you) while rappin’ “I wish I could “Love” (of course that’s not the real word used) every girl in the world”. Hmmmm….I wonder would MY God be pleased or even approve of stuff like that. It sounds totally religious but we have to think that way if what we acknowledge is going to prove true. Sure you have the money, fame, and your family is financially good but the LOVE of money is the root of all evil and you can easily get blinded by the things it can provide. Like someone could say he loves his wife ten times a day but if he’s hitting her, embarrassing her in front of his friends, or cheating on her all that talk is in the fire because it’s not supported by his actions. Your words and actions do show which God/god you’re serving. Are you serving the one with a big “G” (the only true Almighty Father) or a little “g” (the devil, cars, money, sex, the world’s standards, basically anything that’s not of God or his standards)? To music artists be mindful of what you are saying on records and how it's being portrayed to your community because you have a responsibility to God, yourself, and your fans to have material that lines up to what you want to reflect on your life and or your family.

Ok, I had to write something about this topic for a second. Sorry for those that read this and get a little steamy but it is what it is so please understand. I’ve had a few conversations about why does Father’s Day seem like “leftover scraps” compared to Mother’s Day?! Lol…..for real even some mothers take center-stage when Father’s (key-word) Day arrives. I heard at some churches when fathers were being recognized some single mothers stood up or wanted to be recognized also because they “hold down both roles in the household”. Sure lady that’s ALL fine and cool if that makes you feel loved but I thought I heard them announce “F-A-T-H-E-R-S”. And you might want to sit down if you’re trying to look for a husband because he might see you standing then wonder: “What the world is up with her?!”…lol. Yes, you are a single-mother raising a child or children but you can’t fulfill the void that a man can in their lives.

GREAT.. you take them to gym practice, tap dance, football, basketball, or cheerleading class but you don’t think that’s filling both roles do you? Ok, you cook, clean, iron, prioritize schedules, help with homework, take the boys to get a hair-cut, smack lil Greg on the forehead and tell him to man-up but that STILL doesn’t compare to an example and actions of a man (father). That’s why younger males (especially) that grow up in a single-mom environment need good uncles, (male) cousins, and respected male family friends to help out with the load. It seems like women are always the “victims” when they’re in a single-parent situation. Although it’s a lot of truth to that especially now, in some cases it’s definitely a cop out.

There are some real good fathers out here but the SEVERAL hundred bad ones make it ROTTEN for the majority. All I’m saying is Father’s Day is NOT meant for mothers. Never was, never will be, not gonna happen. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see any fathers acknowledging themselves on Mother’s Day. Why? Because all they can do is what they were taught as men and play that role effectively while waiting on a proper mate (if that’s what they choose). Single mothers should do the same instead of straddling the fence and welcoming the attention on a day meant for fathers. I wouldn't have written this if I haven't seen or heard it being done first-hand. I think its kind of funny.

Am I “Too Hard” for my own good? I don’t think so but I know my personality and actions can portray that ESPECIALLY to the opposite sex. My guess is either I’m going through that stage in my life or women just need to SHAPE UP! Lol…..Now before some women start throwin’ eggs at my head let me state: It’s HIGHLY likely (90%) it’s the first option BUT I wouldn’t FULLY count out the latter one either. Everyone needs a self-check sooner or later. Honestly I do hold myself at a value to where it may seem my pride does get the best of me sometimes (which it has before) but really that’s how I do feel (Its not a front or put on to be vengeful). I want that somebody (whoever that may be) to do what makes them happy and progress toward something positive. If that doesn’t quite fit where I feel I want to go at the moment I will peacefully state that and try to move on to the next conversation topic.

Since I’m into “checking” let me CHECK myself for a minute: I’m stubborn, impatient (at times), a selective listener, selfish, and absolutely LOVE having my way. I’m learning to compromise more but I’m not close to mastering that course yet. I love a big butt and a smile and I can’t deny it (Flesh is a beast). I do believe I know what I want but other times I feel I can be TOO picky. I like the maturity and class of an older woman but then I’m intrigued by the fresh and energetic spirit of a younger woman. I don’t want a woman who curses or talks like she’s straight from HYDE PARK (Memphis term, sorry for those that don’t get it) but I do want some type of positive “spice” to come with the package. I do want somebody I’m attracted to physically but I don’t want that being my primary motive. I am a flirt and NO I don’t do it intentionally its just part of my personality. I do believe we should read and/or meditate on some part of the Word daily for re-fueling. I do still have love for a woman in my past but does that make me unstable to move forward with my future? Life can be cold sometimes and so can relationships if they’re created with not the purest intent at heart. To sum it all up: I have problems man……… and the good part about that is….so do YOU (Lol…) but we can do everyone a favor and admit them and attempt to make strides toward getting better.

It was Crusade week at my church (June 10,11, & 12) and I knew I was going to get something good but what I left with was far beyond what I expected. Pastor Jacko (San Diego, CA) was ON FIRE! He gave everyone in listening distance an old-fashioned WORD beat-down. He didn’t say anything my pastor hasn’t said repeatedly but what stood out was this man’s presence/charisma and the fact that it was coming from a different voice brought more PUNCH to the message. Afterwards people had that look in their eye like: “Man did you get hit in the stomach as hard I did” (lol), it was that groundbreaking of a topic. When I thought about the whole message I broke it down to the subject of “our purpose”.

Everybody (me included) wants to know their purpose in this world. What’s God’s will for my life? What direction does he want me to go? What would make me truly fulfilled? Most of us usually use relationships or addictions as “fillers” to help define a true meaning of purpose in our lives. Although we’re all guilty at times it’s WAY bigger than that. There is nothing wrong with relationships as long as that relationship is not stopping you from progressing in a positive direction. And you would know if it’s going positive by paying attention to your conscious, actions, and simple common sense. Every one of us has the same purpose and that is to win souls for Christ. Of course we have our different callings and gifts but one great purpose from heaven. It might sound cheesy to some but it is clearly understood and written. I wouldn’t be right if I didn’t leave any scriptures to reference to: Luke 19:10; Matthew 18:11; Matthew 28:18-20. In Matthew 28: 18-20 (NLV) Jesus states: “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always even to the end of the age.”

The only way you can start to make a disciple is by sharing or witnessing the love of God to an individual. It’s not the MOST comfortable thing for me (or us) to do sometimes but the command is clear. I do know you can be a witness to some people by being a good example but the majority of us work best when we’re pressured. The best way to pressure a person would be to open your mouth and share. Like I said earlier I’m FAR from a pro at this myself but I’m willing to get better. I think starting a blog and talking about things of Christ is a nice step, but it’s STILL not good enough.

I do hope people read this and realize it’s REAL and once we get about Christ’s business he’ll begin to prosper our own.
We (especially myself) can be bold about making basketball game analysis, other folks attitudes, and why our economy is in a “recession” but when it comes to being bold about sharing (and acting) on the love of Jesus we become timid (or fearful we might get rejected). To tell the truth, we probably will get rejected more than we get accepted but Christ said he has overcome all that. If he said he did we surely have that power to because he’s in us and we’re made in his image…..Let’s get about his business (Got to start somewhere).

A few have told me before that I talk or carry myself as if I’m arrogant or cocky. I’d personally say I’m blessed and confident. Because of my faith and self-commitment of lifestyle I LITERALLY have to be bold to prevent from crumbling. Truth be told, I don’t think I’m an ugly person (inside or out) and at the right moment I don’t have a problem telling somebody just that. You might call it arrogant, I say confident. There’s not a woman I KNOW (saved or unsaved) that doesn’t appeal to a confident common sense dude. I do think some fellas can go overboard with it but that’s the ratio that goes with the program. It’s kind of the same for a guy just with a little twist.

It’s great for a woman to have confidence but most guys (at least the ones I know) like it when the woman is “BAD” but she doesn’t portray it or brag about herself TOO often. It’s one of those intangible qualities a man picks up on as soon as the communication starts. And we all know that an “intangible” is something that can’t be measured or weighed, it’s either there or its not. It can be learned but that wouldn’t be original. So “If you’re BAD and you know it clap your hands”, in this situation…DON’T (lol). Everybody can see you all cute and smell good so why make a mockery of it by calling TOO much attention to yourself. Last thing a REAL man wants is a pre-madonna.

A man is primarily driven to provide, protect, and serve (his wife or companion and family). It takes a healthy dose of confidence for him to do ALL those at the highest level. A woman SHOULD (keyword) primarily be driven to nurture, support, and to serve. It shouldn’t take the same type of confidence a man has to fulfill the equal amount of confidence in a woman (if that makes sense). Lessons learned: Guys, if you’re confident show it. Ladies, if you’re confident know it........

First Time

First let me say I’ve never been the person that “blogs” but I’ve always had my opinions and thoughts. I’ve mostly expressed them primarily to my closet family and friends. Over the last 2 ½ - 3 years I’ve learned a lot about myself, the people in my environment, and most of all being a true Christian. I know some people might be thinking: “Ohhh boy here he goes with this “religious” stuff” Lol... People that are close to me know how I use to talk, act, and perceive certain situations. I wasn’t a horrible person by any means (I don’t believe) I just thought and acted differently than I do today. I’m still silly, love to laugh, like to check, and get mad like everyone else but I think way more now before I approach certain circumstances.

To give a little background, I’ve been baptized since the age of 7 (maybe 6…something like that) but I truly wasn’t born again (saved) or progressively renewing in the things of Christ until I was 24 years old (I turned 27 in April). And that’s not saying I haven’t made any mistakes, lost my cool, or thought about slappin’ a NINJA in the mouth repeatedly since that time. That stuff is going to happen sometimes (I’ve come to realize), I just handle it differently by apologizing and repenting as soon as I take notice. I was already a couple years out of college and basically just trying to make ends meet when I came to a realization that the way I’ve been doing things haven’t quite worked for me and a change was necessary. It just didn’t happen instantly for me either, I went through several different situations (disease, jail, being fired, excessive car drama, heated relationship issues, finances, etc.) I thank God I had real good friends to assist me through some of those circumstances.

My dad has been a minister ever since I could remember so I was “BEAT” with the word early in life. Every time I think of that I think of Proverbs 22: 6 (NIV version): “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it”. Personally, I just wanted to be like everyone else and not be labeled as a “preacher’s” kid. It seems now all that teaching and knowledge I heard 15-20 years ago is now starting to bloom from inside of me. I’m DEFINITELY not a finished product but I like the direction I’m going. When I hear some people say: “Yes I believe in God”, “I love him”, “He’s my foundation”, etc., etc. then turn around and have conversations where they curse (some excessively) that really makes me think. Ok, if you don’t believe and are not saved (AND admit it) and that’s how you want to talk that’s one thing but don’t say you believe and you’re saved and then go on and say anything you want! You’re literally smacking God in the face because you claim you’re his but fail to put it into action. Some stuff can come out “SOMETIMES” maybe because we all have our moments (some more than others) but as you get more into the things of Christ and read his Word those “slip-ups” will become fewer and fewer then to being pretty much non-existent.

Everybody is going to make mistakes but if you keep making the same one over and over again it’s a problem. Ok, as bad as it may sound people can make the mistake of “slipping” into having sex once but doing it multiple times is going beyond the quote: “Everybody makes mistakes”….then its just being made as an excuse because “we’re all human”. We (especially as men) aren’t dumb and we know what kind of position we put ourselves in, it’s that we don’t really care sometimes or we think we maybe can resist temptation. (Men) We were NOT made to resist a woman! (Not suppose to happen) Lol….and the numbers more than certify my claim.

I use to curse with the best of them (at least I thought so anyway) but as I kept reading and tried to grasp an understanding of the Word I found it almost impossible to continue to talk like that. I owed myself and the God I serve more than that. Most of the time when people curse anyway is because it sounds cool and that’s the way you hear everybody else express themselves so you figure you might as well do it too. Because saying “DARN” or “MAAAAN” sounds pretty corny compared to the other choice words. Have I thought about doing it? Yes, on several occasions. Have I been provoke to? Everyday riding on these TN streets. Do I still listen to CDs or watch movies that has cursing in them? Of course I do, but my taste in certain types of music and movies have changed. Would I be glorifying God by cursing and KNOWING that he doesn’t approve of it? No, I wouldn’t be especially since I for real know better now (Proverbs 8:13).

People are destroyed by a lack of knowledge and if you have the knowledge you’re going to be held accountable for it. I’m not “trying” to judge anybody on what they personally want to do but if you say you’re a Christian and are born-again I know I have the right to check you (just like YOU have the right to do the same to me). The only way we can love God/Jesus is by obeying his word. I won’t be surprised if some people get offended by me writing this (or plainly just disagrees) and some will agree but at the end of the day it’s only one TRUTH. Everything else is either tradition, peer pressure, or “what feels right”. Either you’re ALL in or you’re on the other side of the fence. You’re either for God or you’re against him, there is absolutely NO gray area.

I can talk to my pastor in the same manner I can talk to my co-worker. If we don’t curse at your pastor or “keep it trill” with him, why can't we show the same respect to a co-worker or friend. I’ve known some people to use a word to describe a situation because another word really couldn’t paint a clearer picture but doing it continuously though?! LOL….its always been funny to me how we talk to somebody at the church with such respect then go talk to somebody else outside of the church but say whatever we want cause they “understand” or “I don’t feel like being restricted”. Maybe I’m the only one who thinks that’s funny. Many of us talk about people being “two-faced” or “fake” and we’re that same way with God sometimes. We’ll obey our parents, won’t murder anybody (I hope…), steal (illegally anyway..Lol), or intentionally treat anyone bad but we can’t fathom not cursing, not having sex before marriage, getting drunk, or hating on each other for whatever reason. And those of us that say we believe, trust, love, and worship him then we have to obey ALL his commands. We ALL will be judged one day, so we might as well check ourselves while we can.

Everybody wants several things out of life and most would agree that it is God’s will that’s going to take us there. So why not put ourselves in the best position to allow God’s will and purpose to run us over. Sure most will still get some type of blessing even if they chose not to obey but that’s a testament on how much God truly loves us, but if we want that REAL deal breakthrough obedience is the key. It’s not the popular choice and many will not understand (or even care to understand), you might even lose to a “friend” or two….or three but you’ll be in-line to catch ALL the blessings he has for you. You’ll probably be looked at like you’re a “square”, “not a real man (or WO-man)”, or “unrealistic”. I can be cool with that as long as I know there’s a spot in heaven waitin’ on your boi!

I’m not just speaking to those who are reading this, I’m also putting pressure on myself to be better and maintain. Being a Christian is a lifestyle not a hobby. We can all help each other out because it can be hard being by yourself trying to do things outside of the “norm”. I want all my friends and “non”-friends to be blessed and know the truth. Some I know have been thinking if I haven’t spoke to you personally in a while or at all: “This dude has really changed or grew up” or “I had no idea he thought about all this like that”…Lol. It is what it is...
